Does any one in here ever use a heating pad to help keep a small tank like say 1 gal warm for your betta since you can not get heaters for that size? I know lots of you use lights to help with this but do you leave them on 24/7? Thanks Glo

Hello Glo
Yeah, I leave my lights on all the time...I know that isn't the best solution, but it does keep the temp pretty stable. What I have done is put some plants up around the top. It helps to filter out a bit of the light as well as lesson the current caused by the bubbler in my AquaScene tank.
I think if I could put something on the bottom that he could crawl into to get out of the light..it would help. perhaps a small terra cotta planter cut in half or something. Will have to try that out because poor blue is looking a bit ragged lately. I think he needs some shut eye. He's the only one of my bettas that is in light all the time..I have been experimenting with the lighting situation with him. In fact..I have just turned his light off as I type this. (my bettas surround me while I am on my puter ) I'll have to post a pic of my settup here.

Glo, I'd really like to hear how your heating pad experiment is going. It's a great idea, and I'm sure everyone here is curious about how it is going!

Emg, I try to have a hidey-hole for all my bettas that have the lights on 24/7. I have a snail shell for one girl betta, and a cave rock for some others. Tiny terra-cotta pots are always a good choice, as are silk plants to hide in. Or anything you can find that's non-reactive, like slate rocks built into a 'cave'. They like having retreats. All fish do. :music:
