Well, our house seems to have its share of plumbing disasters. In the last few years my daughter's toilet has overflowed twice and poured through the floor and found an exit through the chandelier over our kitchen table.

Our boys bathroom clogged and overflowed through 2 levels. We are still having issues with the bathtub caulk not working in my daughter's shower and consequently it is still doing a slow drip into the living room. And our boys bathroom sinks are leaking now, too.

Then last night a huge disaster struck. The powder room bath got clogged.

My husband spent over 30 min trying to unclog it. Then he went down to the basement to look for a better plunger only to find a lake forming under one of the pipes. It had spread out over 20 or 30 feet.

To make a long story short - the clog is somewhere underground between the house and the outside pipe. Thankfully none of our other bathrooms go through this drain so they are still useable.

Today he is trying to beg, borrow and probably rent a long snake to see if he can get it unclogged.

Meanwhile, we have to sort through everything that was contaminated in the basement by the water. Word to the wise - always store everything off the floor!

Sorry, that sounds grim.

A quick update on last night's disaster - a friend loaned us a 10' snake which took care of the clog. No idea how or why it happened, but we are back in business. This weekend we'll be sorting through what was damaged and/or contaminated in the basement.
