I put the temp in the tank up to 88 degrees, but the white chunks are still on Flounder. I haven't seen anything on any other fish or the plecos, the water is a lovely blue, so I'm hoping the meds kick in soon. fish

Nan, are the white chunks missing scales? My cichlids sometimes scuffle, and that's what it looks like. it grows back in with warmer temps and some Melafix and/or salt.

Nope, the chunks are on his lower fin behind the anal fins. He seems totally healthy, and I'm noticing the chunks are moving slowly toward the edge of his fin. <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

nan, I don't know what could be going on. Just keep an eye out. try the salt and melafix.

I am treating a client's African Cichlid with a bad case of fin rot. At one point I thought he was dead, but I guess it was a coma. Andway, he's in a specimen container in my 18 tall, with an airstone, melafix, plenty of salt and a single drop of methlene blue. he is actually trying to swim around now, but still has really bad red stumps for fins and will probably still not make it. I am hoping, though. he's a very pretty albino lake Victorian type. fish

I've been using quick cure, turns the water blue, and I've noticed that the chunks are still moving toward the edge of his fin. I haven't seen any white spots on any of the other fish. I haven't been using the salt, I'll do that tonight.

The other fish let me see them last night -- there are chunks on at least 2 other fish. So, put more quick cure -- doesn't seem very quick to me! -- into the tank last night. The temp is still hovering around 88 degrees.

the quick cure won't act at all if you have carbon in your filter. you need to remove all the carbon during the entire treatment period.

My client's cichlid didn't make it. bummer. i wish I'd started treating him sooner. What's funny is he rallied a bit before death...I've noticed they do that, over and over again. I've also seen that in birds, and people say that a lot of people rally also, just before giving up the ghost.

Seriousness, sorry. I just thought it was interesting.

Jilly,
I have taken the carbon filter out. I haven't been adding salt daily -- is that extremely important?
