Hi everyone,
This article in the Toronto Star caught my attention. Have any of you tried moving back in with your folks after you finished college? If so, how did it go???? Any tips or words of wisdom for our readers?

Thanks,
Kristy

I moved back after college AND after I divorced until I got back on my feet. I had married and was living near Boston, I moved back to Texas and lived with them for awhile.

FOR ME, it didn't work well. My parents tried to give me a curfew even though I was in my mid 20s. I was never the kind to go out and do anything crazy. One night I went over to a friends house who had two children, one of whom was SICK and they told me to come home at a certain time. They also read my mail and monitered just about every area of my life.

For your sake, I think you should get a post office box so you can have some privacy. Since most people have cell phones, you won't have the problem of your parents listening to your phone calls or tracking who is calling you.

It all depends on the parents of course. I wouldn't assume that your parents are going to be too different then they were when you lived with them before. In my case my parents were always very controlling and manipulative, they have continued to be that way my entire life. No change in my life made them treat me any differently then they did when I was a small child, even having a child of my own.

Thanks for writing, Lisa! I bet you are "right on" with your observation that most parents are probably going to be the same way that they were before. That's pretty eye-opening. I can't imagine having to deal with a curfew again! I understand that it's "their" house & that there is a need to be respectful, but a curfew would be really hard for me. And, I'm not a wild-type either! I guess for me, it would be hard knowing that they didn't think I could manage myself properly.

By the way--great tip about getting a PO Box. In addition to the privacy issue, it seems like it would make everything so much more seamless in terms of eventually getting a job & your own place, etc.

Thanks again for sharing your story,
Kristy

Another fun thing that happened to me is that I was raised in a family that celebrates a religion that does not believe in drinking alcohol. WELL by the time I moved back in, I did drink a little here and there, especially after a long day at work. I had to sneak in the house with my wine and hide it and then once I was done, sneak back out with the empty bottles.

OF course back then no one had a cell phone so using the phone was always an issue as well. Luckily this won't be a problem you deal with.

So---readers---would you recommend only moving back home after college if you were still looking for a job?

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts & experiences!
