I love going to the Smithsonian's Folkway's Music Program. You can download some wonderful music there from various points in the world, or in my specific case, the Southern United States.
I found some music there I hadn't heard since I was a child. I used to sneak out from my Children's Choir practice and go about four blocks away to the black church, because their music had more heart and soul. I loved what I thought was gospel, but later found also included music that had descended from slave/work music. I was also able to find the Sea Island music I had heard as a child on Sapelo and Sea Island.
I used the music to tie in the different components in my Southern Cultural Murder Mystery, Under the Liberty Oak. I would play the different pieces and found the words would flow as the music did.
