Do you observe any feast days? If so, which ones?

I do St. Pat too! I've also been thinking about celebrating St. Zita (Apr 27th), though I never have before. (Has anyone else?) My family never really paid attention to feast days when I was a kid, but I think I'd like to start observing at least a few every year...

Hi Nancy - talking of feast days - I thought you might be interested to know that near us in Cornwall (land of surf and legends) it is the feast of St Piran's Day!
He gave his name to Perranporth - Great Surfboarding destination!
Can you find out any more about him?

What a great idea, Nancy. I would like to learn more about different "feast days". Who was St. Zita? My family has always observed St. Patrick's Day.

Can you find out any more about him? I'd never heard of him, so I looked him up -- seems he was a hermit who lived in either the 5th or 6th century (depending on the source you consult). He's a patron saint of Cornwall (England), Piran (Slovenia), miners and tinners. Here's an interesting tidbit from Patron Saints Index: Piran's patronage of Cornwall derives from his popularity with the Cornish tin-miners. Legend says that Piran discovered tin in Cornwall when he used a large black rock to build a fireplace, and found that the heat made a trickle of pure white metal ooze from the stone. He shared this discovery with the locals, providing Cornish with a lucrative living. The people were so delighted that they held a sumptuous feast where the wine flowed like water. Piran was fond of the odd tipple, and resulting in the Cornish phrase "As drunk as a Perraner". The trickled of white metal upon a black background remains as the White Cross of Saint Piran on the Cornish National flag. ...And, of course, Wikipedia also has something to say about both St. Piran and St. Piran's Day.

Zita was a 13th century domestic servant from Italy. She was known for her piety, diligence and generosity. (Here's a short bio.) She was canonized around the year 1700, and is now considered the patron saint of servants, maids, waiters/waitresses, homemakers & butlers. Also, if you lose your keys, she's the saint to ask for help. Her body can be found on display in the Basilica di San Frediano in Lucca, Italy. Her feast day is April 27th, and it's celebrated by baking a loaf of bread.

Wow, thanks Nancy! Fascinating history for both - particularly St Piran where the visuals are strong! You have got me thinking.....

I was born on March 19th and named for St. Joseph, so i definitely have observed his Feast Day and pray to him. Never fails to give an answer. Did you know, that if you want to sell your house, or property, you bury St. Joseph in your yard until the property sells and when it does, you dig him up. He is also the saint to pray for for new employment. He is also the Patron Saint of The Dying. I have no fear of death and i think it is because of him.
St. Anthony, June 13th, NEVER fails. You pray to him, if you have lost something, whether an object, your job, money, etc. If you see a house you would like, you place a small statue of him, on the property - somewhere discreet, where the current owner won't find him.
St. Michael Sept. 29th Patron of all Police officers. His name means, He who is like God.
Guardian Angels Oct. 2nd, always get my angel flowers on this day, and on Christmas Eve, to say thanks for putting up with me.
St. Theresa, the Little Flower, Oct. 3rd. When you pray to her, and you receive a rose from someone, it is a sign form The Little Flower, your prayer will be answered.
Who can forget Oct. 4th and St. Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals, founder of the Franciscans and close friend of St. Clare.
St. Padre Pio is a favorite -- Padre is faster than Federal Express. Every time i pray to him - within 24 hours he answers.
Soon JPII, I am sure, will be canonized.
