The Winter 2008 Linkages newsletter from Seattle is a great resource for families as well as dental professionals and primary care physicians who would benefit from knowing more about the providing appropriate and effective oral health care to children with special needs.

The first time my son visited a dentist's office, he thought it was a beauty salon, and was quite angry afterwards that his hair was a mess ~ and his mouth hurt, too.

I did try to prepare him, but once he saw the chairs and the attractive young women standing by each one, he made up his own mind about where he was ~ and if they asked him to open his mouth so the dentist could work in there, he was happy to comply.

If you have any helpful advice for other families, or resources on oral health, preparing children for dental visits (and recovery), please share with us here.
