Any one out there playing women's soccer? Supporting Women's football locally or nationally?

Where are you and who do you support?

I am a soccer supporter, I have two sons who play soccer. I live in Louisiana and the girls high school programs and the College Soccer for Women is a much higher priority than it is for boys so I do monitor the teams and players and there is a lot of support for womens soccer down here.

Where do you live now? It is one of the fastest growing sports out there and I'm surprised no one else is talking about it as you have pointed out.

hi there TJN. smile
Great to hear from you, & thanks for joining up with the forum too. I live in England, and while obviously the main focus is the Premier League, Women's football (soccer) is now the most popular sport amongst girls and young women, it is the fast growing sport across the board.

On a local level it's great because I don't have to travel too far to see some great teams from the Women's Premier League, or the mens's Premier League as well for that matter! smile

I too would like to see more discussion about Women's Soccer across the world, I think that on a local, national and international level there are some great teams and players out there.

It's always encouraging to hear from people like yourself who are supporting others to get involved!

Are your local teams doing well? How well do you think the College Soccer for Women is working in producing the future stars?

Good luck to your sons also, I hope they are enjoying playing the sport and will continue to do so.

The womens soccer scene, in the US, went through a bit of a shocker with all the world cup drama. However they are starting to organize another professional league which they are planning to launch in the fall of 2009.

There is a website blog which discusses the organization and a decision to put the league off until 09 in light of the Olympics and the ability to raise capital for the league.

Hello - I live in Nebraska and I have played soccer probably since I could walk. I played in High School and College and am now trying to stay or pretend to still be young by playing indoor soccer on a coed team. Soccer is pretty popular here in Nebraska even with the crazy weather that we have!!!

hello there Patient.

Great to see you posting here, and glad to hear that you are still enjoying your soccer! smile It's a wonderful way to stay fit, and youthful too! What position do you play in?

Myself I play as striker/midfielder for my college team. I love to play.

I'm going to be doing a feature soon on Women's Soccer in the US, especially regarding the new professional league plans so look out for that.

In high school i played keeper/goalie 100% of the time. And in college i was recruited to play keeper but by my sophmore/second year we needed a sweeper so i played that then was moved to forward/striker by my last year. My love and true talent is at goalie though.

That's great! I have played in goal before once or twice but I am probably a bit too short! lol. I'm glad you're enjoying it, it's great to hear from you. Good luck this season!

Hey, I'm Angela. I play on a local womens league in Los Angeles. We are called "Divas USA". We're a new team, so we haven't won any games yet, haha, but they will come! Soccer is an excellent way to stay fit, competitive, and make some wonderful friends along the way. I play midfield.

Friday night I went with some of my team to see the University of Southern California womens team play Mexico City. It was a great game. Although soccer is not very popular in the US as a major spectator sport, there is still plenty of interest in it.
