Why are people so resistant to adoption? Do they really believe that their genes are SO special?

Ego-maniacs. All of them.

The truth is...Nancy is a loud-mouthed arrogant know-it-all who knows nothing about anything outside the law (and I imagine she wasn't a good lawyer, either). I have lost all respect for her because of this ordeal and how she treats guests on her show.

She needed to make a decision. A career or children. In my strict belief, you can't have both. She put two innocent lives in danger because of her selfishness.

She amazes me with the way she seems to insult everyone's intelligence. Who's the idiot now?

Nancy Grace is such a drama queen. What what she thinking having kids at 47??? I am 36, and have decided its too late to bear children. I think its selfish to bear kids later in life. If she wanted kids that bad, why didn't she adopt?

I've never heard of this woman but I do know of a senior lawyer in Australia who had a first child at 49...
I think most women know the risks...but some never think it will happen to them.
Its also, the "wanting/having it all" mindset...pursue your career, remain Undecided (whether you acknowledge it or not) and then decide to have a child when really the gate should be closed.
Most women start to closely consider the question in their late 30s and if you're still CF and undecided by about 43 most accept the decision has been made for them or they've made the decision by continually delaying pregnancy.
Men are the ones that often don't appreciate the risks.
I was sitting next to an upper middle aged man recently...in passing, he mentioned he might like to start a family one day - felt like I was in a time warp.
In fact, i can only remember one man that acknowledged he was probably too old to have kids - usually its the womans age that is the only consideration - a 47 year old colleague said to me last year, "kids are off the agenda - its too late to make a start now...but I think I'm a great Uncle"...
I think its something both sexes need to closely consider, MAKE your decision and then move on with your life. (IMHO)

She wants to have her cake and eat it too.

My mom had me at age 38 and the doctor told her of all the risks (I turned out normal. Or at least half-normal grin). That was 23 years ago. Much more information about having children late in life is known today than 23 years ago. So, you can't tell me she didn't know what she was getting herself into. And you also can't tell me that the pregnancy was "natural". She didn't get pregnant naturally. She must have been consulting a fertility specialist. Any good fertility specialist would tell a 47-year-old woman that having children that late in life can cause major health problems for her and the baby.

And another thing that bugs me about the situation....she has her kids now...the ones she wanted some bad...the twins whos lives she risked...now she's back at work. If you wanted to be a mother that badly, wouldn't you drop the career? We all know Nancy Grace isn't lacking money so it isn't as though it is required for her to work.

Some women can fall pregnant naturally later in life.
My GP tells me that some women over 45 forget about or are slack with contraception thinking they're "past it" and a few get a big surprise...
She told me that four patients of the practice had fallen pregnant naturally at 48 - two went ahead & two aborted. Apparently, women usually miscarry when they conceive late in their 40s, but not always...
The two that went ahead did not believe in abortion and had already raised families so, they were starting again at 48...effectively, having two separate families.
So, be careful...

But that is rare. And, to me, the fact that she had twins makes it even more likely that was she was taking fertility medication or became pregnant by in-vitro fertilization. Multiple births often occur due to fertility treatments.
