This week I celebrate my AA birthday. I am grateful to be able to do that. But this weekend I was told a gentleman I know in the program, committed suicide. It made me sad to think how alone he might have felt but I guess what I want to say is that addiction alone is not going to make you kill yourself. It is the depression or other types of mental illness that combined with the addiction is the culprit. So, please, don't let anyone tell you that you can't take meds if your doctor believes they are right for you and you take them as prescribed. And, if you feel you need help please, please get it. I have been clean and sober for two and a half years now and I thank my higher power every day for what I have. I cannot take anti- depressants, so I found a different way to deal with the depression. Its called Tyrosine. Im sure there are others in the same boat. I do not and cannot prescribe anything, but it works for me.

Thanks Sierra, I think the point is that we must know ourselves and what we can and cannot handle. I'm glad you found what works for you. Perhaps your post will give others the opportunity to look outside of anti-depressants also.
