If you know that you are going to neglect your own child then why get pregnant? The parents are the mature adults who are responsible for the welfare of their children. The child is the innocent victim of these adults who wont be responsible and dont care for children. You say it is better to kill the child of these bad parents, I say why cater to these bad parents when they are the problem, not the child.
I don't think anyone who knows that they will neglect their kid gets pregnant on purpose. Usually mistakes or accidents. Even happens to people who do use protection. But why punish the kid for the parent's mistake? Why even create a victim if we can avoid it? I don't like using abortions as 'birth control', but I also don't like punishing a child to teach the parents a lesson in responsibility.

Lisa I'm not saying you're wrong, but I do believe that the majority of unwanted pregnancies, teen pregnancies in particular are not from "Fundies and right wingers." At least in my state. They are from families where the parents should not have been parents, hence the cycle continues.
There is always the exception. I am just thankful that I never had to make the decision. I watched many friends go through it, and I would never wish it on anyone.

Everything that I read says that when you teach the Fundie/right wing lie of abstinence rather then birth control...you get a higher rate of teen pregnancy.
Thats not MY assesment of the statistics, thats a well publized reality based on stats taken nationwide AND compared with other countries such as the UK where they teach birth control and responsible sex rather then this flight of fantasy called abstinence.

Like I said, not in my world. That went out in the 70's, when the "good girl" was the pregnant one.
Grant it, there's the church that preaches abstinence, and the majority of parents just correct it, in my world. The best education my kids received on unprotected sex was a slide show of STD's, scared the hell out of them.
And you're correct, most countries address it. We tend to ignore it. But even so, there's so many repeat offenders. (The welfare world), it's just a shame that abortion is the alternative when it is for the most part easily prevented.

We all struggle through life. Many people have been born in poverty, and in horrible family conditions, yet they turned out O.K. I guess that depends on what your definition of "OK" is. I had more to say, but why am I even responding to this troll?

Ingilbert:
I just want to say that all of your comments really affect me - in a great way of course. You say things that I am not brave enough to say - like this "troll" and on the other thread, the one about "....lacking compassion..." I just wanted to thank you for being so outspoken and self-assertive. That is something I lack. Although, Pro-"lifers" really get to me, and I do have choice words for them - that isn't something I hold back on. I have dealt with rape victims and I myself have been a victim of unwanted touching as a little girl - thank goodness I haven't been raped. But these people make my blood boil. I guess I shouldn't let their ignorance affect me but it does.
Anyway, please accept my admiration of your strongness - I aspire to be stronger :O)

Well, thank you! Normally my outspokenness gets me in a lot of trouble! I guess when I was a teenager I put up with a lot of verbal abuse from my peers, and when I got older and dealt with bullies for bosses, I decided I wasn't going to take it anymore!

Good for you - that is the healthy way to deal with it. I took all of the problems facing me and turned inward - making me overly sensitive and not being able to express anything unpleasant. I am in therapy and working on expressing my feelings more - not holding them in and having them making me sick. My goal is to be a strong person, and that is what I see here with your posts :O) I just wanted to let you know that I really admire that quality and especially after reading that one thread about lack of compassion(that we won't mention) you really expressed yourself perfectly and stuck up for everyone here! It was fabulous!
Anyway, I don't want to take away from this abortion thread.... so keep up the good work :O)

Thanks ... I know what you mean about becoming overly sensitive and turning it inward. I was the same way while being tormented in junior high and high school, and then when I developed anxiety, I spent so much energy hiding it from everyone that I never expressed any feelings. Now that I don't have anxiety, it's like all those years of suppressing how I felt is coming out all at once. I get REALLY happy or REALLY sad or REALLY mad. I'm working on it. I went to therapy for anxiety years ago and she laughed when I asked if I was bipolar. I guess I'm just re-learning how to express emotion after hiding it for so long.

Thanks for putting that into words BillieCat. I agree Ingilbert! You were able to steer the discussion to a higher ground and gave us a way out of the rut without wimping out at the same time. I really appreciated it.
