I am bloated like every day. I have horrible IBS, and I am trying to remedy the problem through my diet. IBS is supposedly related to lactose intolerance. Do you have this, by any chance?

I notice more bloating if I eat something that contains a lot of cheese and butter.

Can that be due to milk?

Hey cdmohatta, for an occasional problem such as this, you might try first remedying the problem with an elimination diet, as happytobechildfree also mentioned. If you haven't tried this, it can give you great insight as to what is causing the discomforts - some people are susceptible to discomforts caused by even otherwise healthy foods. I am currently working on an article about this - it should be up soon! By the way I appreciate all the action you give the forum!

I also have IBS in addition to reflux, etc.
I cannot have dairy - but it is not due to lactose, it is because of the casein and whey that are in dairy.
My other problem is fried and fatty foods.
If I eat any of the above, I am in extreme pain!

I have just been diagnosed with severe IBS. My most pain comes from eating bread products...white bread, cereal, bagels, breaded chicken and fish... my doctor tested me for Celiac disease (allergic to gluten). The only symptom I have is the pain from eating bread so she won't officially call it that. I also have a problem with fried foods. They don't bring me pain...bring on .... gross bowel movements...I love hamburgers made from turkey but if it is fried...I am running to the potty. So with a medicine called Levsin and a change in diet, I don't get as bloated and less pain.

IBS- Irritable Bowel Syndrome,
Is a disorder of motility of the entire gastrointestinal tract that produces abdominal pain, constipation, or diarrhea. and effects women 3 times more than men.In this syndrome, the gastrointestinal tract is especially sensitive to many stimuli.Stress, diet, drugs, hormones,or minor irritants may cause the gastrointestinal tract to contract abnormally. Period of stress and emotional conflict that cause depression or anxiety frequently exacerbate episodes of IBS.Some people with the syndrome appear to be much more aware of their symptoms. During an episode, the contractions of the gastrointestinal tract becomes stronger and more frequent, and the rapid transit of food and feces through the small intestine often leads to diarrhea. Crampy pain seems to result from the strong contractions of the large intestine and increased sensitivity of the pain receptors in the large intestine. There are two major types of IBS The spastic colon type,The second type mainly produces painless diarrhea or relatively painless constipation.

Treatment
Differs from person to person,People who can identify particular foods or types of stress that brings on the problem should avoid them if possible.People with abdominal distention and increased gas should avoid beans, cabbage and other foods that are hard to digest.
