Because anal sex usually results in more abrasions than vaginal sex. This is why lesbians have a much lower risk than gay men.

Yes, that is true.

very much so. But there are many factors in contracting the disease, and risky sexual behavior has the most correlation ;0)

The one thing we have to learn is to stop spreading it!

Remarkably enough, many young promiscuous people do not use any form of barrier contraception with partners they barely know. Also, there is a high incidence of one-night flings, with no comittment, and this is posing a massive threat to young sexually active people.

The constant theme seems to be "It couldn't POSSIBLY happen to me - I'm young and having FUN - !!"

From the teen forums I participate in actively, the reality is very different to what you are saying. I find all of them very worried about these issues. I keep spending lot of time to explain how to protect because everybody there wants to protect themselves at any cost.

The UK has the highest incidence of under-age sex and pregnancy than any other country in Europe, perhaps the world.
This leads me to believe that unfortunately, the young people you know are different to the ones I know.....

However that may be, the simple truth that even with education there is ignorance. We can tell a person that using a barrier device decreases their chances of contracting STD's, we can show them the facts. We can chat with them until they are blue. NO matter what, there will always be people who "learn" the information but don't USE the information. Or they have an "aha" moment after the fact and their lives are ruined. Promiscuety and one night stands are very common. We need to make these people carry a barrier and use it correctly.

Education is well and good, but until one truly LEARNS, we can only hope and pray for them.
