To sell one's body for money is prostitution. Is it also true for other material gains? Or other gains? When we sell our body to get something- is that prostitution?

..the key word that you use there is selling - and selling your body in exchange for anything is infact prostitution.

Good point. Even if money never changes hands, if sexual favors are bartered in return for anything, it would be akin to prostitution, would it not?

So, if a woman submits herself to aman against her wishes but to get other benefits is prostitution. Thanks,

Assuming sex for money/other benefits is prostitution, and it's entirely voluntary (not coerced in any way), is it wrong? Should it be illegal? How is it different than stripping, dancing, modeling, nude &/or sexual photos/film for money? Do we have a right to tell an adult what they can do with their body?

Well, it can be illegal because the wages that prostitutes earn are often not taxed.

Ok, that's a tax issue. Let's assume that if it was legal earnings would be taxed.

Prostitution can also be illegal because of health issues or because it violates some of the constitutions of some countries.

What does what is legal or illegal in the United States have to do with the constitutions of other nations?

Also, IF prositution was legal, it would be taxed and regulated for health and other issues.

I am not certian if it should be legal, but if it was it could reduce certian criminal elements that manage and profit from prostitution.

Good points. The health issues can be dealt with, just as with any sexually active person. Assuming if prostitution was legal I imagine there would be mandatory condoms, testing, etc.

Off the top of my head I don't know how it would violate the US constitution.

I'm not saying I thing prostitution is a good thing, just wondering why it's mostly illegal since most practical issues (taxes, health, etc.) can be managed.

I don't think she meant the USA specifically...I think she just meant it was illegal in some countries due to its violation of their constitutions....

Babysitting also creates a tax issue does it not? Many professions do, and again the health issue is a risk of the person, as those who chose to serve in the armed forces face risk aswell. I am not sure if I am for or against it but its either to argue both ways...

I also feel that even exchanging sexual favors for emotional gain is still prostitution, anything beyond a mutual desire for that sexual intimacy, with something else on the table is infact prositution ...or thats my opinion.

That is quite right and my wife has gone away from me and doing this for last seven years. Money, prestige, and a false face.

Yes - I think there are many forms of "prostitution" of body and person both professionally and personally. In many cases it's not best for one or both participants, but should the government have the ability to tell people what to do with their bodies?

cdmohatta - I'm not sure what you mean - your wife is "prostituting" herself in your marriage for favors/gain?

I wasn't aware that this discussion is limited to what is legal or illegal in the United States. I am under the impression that this discussion involves other countries as well. After all, prostitution is not limited to the United States.

I was under personally under the impression it was a discussion about the world population, not any indivuidal nation, or group of nations. Prostitution relates back to human nature and ecnomics, were sexual lust is a desire not always filled creating a "need" or "demand" and then you have those who are struggling finacially who have this "good" or "service" ...and much like any transaction they exchange the two ..

No. My life has shattered because of this. I loved her madly and do so still. But except praying to my Guru, I know of no way to bring her back to senses. I cry and i become sad. I have gone lunatic because of this. only because of the grace of my Gurudeva, I am alive.

cdmohatta,am so sorry....so thats teh reason for your depression...
why do you want to love someone who do not respect human values and you.
i see that youhave children too.
God forgive her for her wrong doings.
what prestige can one get from it?
maybe she doesnt find it wrong.
please try not to get depressed for someone who thinks different.

Who is "the government?" Is it not "we the people?" As such, should we not have the right to create the kind of society that we believe makes for a more perfect union? This will of course include some rules and regulations concerning our bodies!

I want to add-

In the beginning, my wife was gem of a human being. She had the right values and sacrificed a lot for me when my financial destruction began. Then she suddenly changed into another human being. That transformation was so shocking that I lost my mental balance. Even today I can not believe thta she was the same person.
The trauma was very painful and disoriented me. That is why I love her for whatshe was and hate her for what she became and am suprised at why that happened.

I am very much indebted to her for what all she did for me in the beginning. I want her to come back so that I can give her the happiness in turn. I will now close this topic. Thanks.
