The book was found while the man was looking through a box in his mother's attic. It seems over the years it was found several times and intended to be returned and always set aside and some how once more it would be misplaced.

This time the library book made it back to the public library and the fine paid in full. My library charges .10 cents per day late fee...so somehow I doubt anyone could afford to return a book 47 years from now.

Quote:
"I figured I'd better get it in before we waited another 10 years," he said after turning it in Friday with the $171.32 check. "Fifty-seven years would be embarrassing."

yeah, it wouldn't be practical to return the book. I would rather buy new owns and donate them to the library. That might be a lot cheaper.

He did a very nice thing for the library by making the monetary donation. The book was written off years ago.

Oh, and it's always better to let libraries by their own books. We can often purchase books at a lower rate than the public and the binding is intended for many users. Often standard book store books fall apart after 10 check-outs.

Wow! Our library lets you "read" off your fees. I think if you read for 15 minutes you can shave a dollar off of your fine.
