BellaOnline Forums Education Post College 1st Holiday Season away from Home?

Hi Readers,

Happy belated Thanksgiving! The holiday season is upon us.

It doesn't matter which holidays you choose to celebrate; the first time you are away from home (friends or family) over a significant holiday, you are bound to feel some feelings of loss. I still remember crying in my fiance's grandparents back-yard the first year I was away from my immediate family on Christmas day.

So...I'm asking you for tips to share with our forum. What helps you get in the holiday spirit? If you felt isolated, what helped you get past those feelings and move on?

Do something different - not really in the holiday spirit.

I was really bummed my first thanksgiving away from home. At the last minute I wasn't able to go to my Grandparent's home, and they cook the most amazing thanksgiving dinner ever.

I spent most of the day laying in bed, until my Russian roommate forced to me join him and a friend at an Irish pub. LOL I ended up eating nachos for thanksgiving, drinking beer, and talking about travel. It was a great way to get my mind off of missing thanksgiving.
