When I wrote "They're Too Skinny, He Said", I never once considered the feelings of skinny women! My focus was on us more shapely people, who I thought my main audience was. I really didn't consider the feelings of women who are slim - especially those who eat and never gain an ounce even though they want to.

I'm very sorry if I offended any super slim women out there.

Here's the article, in case you haven't read it...and, if you're skinny, did you find it offensive? http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art39594.asp

Mmm, interesting... no I don't find your article offensive because you're talking here about a specific incident rather than broadly slamming all skinny people. But then I'm used to being "picked" on so it just rolls off me. But I liked the Russian model's comment and that is something I keep bringing up - it's not acceptable to discriminate against beautifully big women because they have stood up for their rights and won respect for themselves. Perhaps it is time thin women did the same thing as our larger sisters...

But I do have to say, also, that extremes at both ends are medically proven to be unhealthy - you can be too large and you can be too thin, and both cause health problems.

How about just seeking to be healthy and happy, and if you're thin or curvy then that's who you are

I am one of those skinny women. I am 5'5' and weigh in at 109 pounds soaking wet and eat like a teenage boy. I was born skinny. What I think is amusing at least to me is I get my work pants in the boys department, they fit better and are cheaper then women sizes.
I have three brothers who are all tall all over 6'3' and they are all skinny also. I have an older sister who is twice my size.
Being skinny by nature is one thing, but to make yourself puke to stay skinny is just plain stupid. A few years ago I got salanella (sp) and lost 30 pounds very quickly and was put in a hospital and fed through my arm for a week and it took months to regain and to feel even human again. I would love to gain 15 pounds.

Wow, thanks for sharing, Nita! I can't imagine wanting to gain weight, I struggle to stay where I am. My husband is the same as you, though: thin and can eat anything without gaining an ounce.

Too bad we couldn't weight share I'd be happy to give you 15 pounds. Or, I could give you 5, and I'm sure someone else would love to give another 10-15! Maybe your sister, she sounds like the black sheep in the family in terms of weight.

I'm sure I've seen books on gaining weight. My husband insists nothing works, but I don't think he's researched it.

Nope, I don't find your article offensive. I find that you are just stating the reality.

I'm 1.60m and weighs 43kg. My dad has being underweight all his life, I might have gotten his genes.

I think one of the reason I'm so thin is because I don't snack. Well, someone can buy the snacks and leave them in my home, I might just eat some initially and I forget about them. And when I pick them up again, it's past the expiry date. And I also have this belief that snacks are not healthy.

I think it has to do with my thinking too. I'm afraid of being overweight, because it's tough to lose weight. I guess that forms a certain type of mindset or belief or whatever it is, in my subconscious mind. So my weight is always between 42 to 44kg.

I think thin women are at the higher risk of osteoporosis, so I hope to gain 5kg for my future health.
