No, no this is not what it sounds like! My hubby and I were staying overnight at a friend's house for the first time. She has just finished fully renovating this old home. She and I had felt a little bit of a presence in the house as we were working on it, sadness in the dining room mostly. As we patched and painted and cleaned and sewed and made each room absolutely stunning, we felt "the house" approved. In fact, my friend's usual colour scheme did not appear in this place at all. Each time we went to look for paint etc. we ended up with a colour family she really didn't care for but seemed right for this place. And it was too once the paint was up! It really confounded my friend who likes to be more in control of these things. Back to the poke... We had stopped in on our way home to break up the journey, but we knew we would have to be on our way by 4 a.m.. I had been asleep for several hours when I started to drift back to the surface. I was sleeping, but lightly, and pondering whether or not I had turned the alarm to "on" on my cell phone. I was just drifting into deeper sleep again when I felt a distinct poke of a finger into the sole of my foot. It definitely woke me up because of the end of the bed angle, and once I saw that there was no one standing there I checked to see where my hubby's foot was to rule out that the contact was somehow with his toe. He was way over on the other side of the bed. Since I was now wide awake, I took the opportunity to check the alarm, and sure enough, I hadn't set it correctly and we would have slept through. I said "thanks" to the Poker and went back to sleep.

Very cool Trishh Houses do have personality of their own, as well as personalities who 'stay on' in them sometimes. Whoever it was clearly appreciated having their home looked after & sounds like a useful helper to have about. Did you tell your friend, or would it make her nervous?

My friend thought it might have been her adult son who died a year and a bit ago. He never lived in that house with her, but she feels him around. I didn't feel it was him particularily, although we were fond of each other and he wouldn't have been above giving me a poke to get going. It didn't creep me out as some encounters have. I just was very sure something extraordinary had happened. My friend found a letter in the mailbox after she had taken possession of the house. The letter was from the previous owner ( a woman whose marriage had gone bad and they sold the house when they split) and the letter was addressed to the "house" itself or the invisible occupants therein. She apologised for leaving them citing her upsetting domestic situation as her reason, but entrusting them to the new owner. She wrote that she was grateful that they had been only warmly embracing of her and not hostile. Seems like they have handled the trasition reasonably well! Just had to share this will you. Kind of neat. t

My friend was over tonight and we were talking about the "poke". She said that her son had always wakened her with that poke in her the sole of her foot when he was alive. Kind of compelling to think my "poker" was him. I guess he is in good company at his mom's house.

I remember sleeping at my bf's house back when we lived in NH and being woken up with a sharp poke in the middle of my back and even though I was asleep facing him and glared at him in his dead sleep and even looked at the door wondering if one of his roomates was being a jerk....also at this same house I remember recieving a tap on the side of the head while sleeping by myself in the same room. =/
