Hi guys! <img src="/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Is there anybody out there who enjoys hand embroidery? I think it's such a fab art. It's time consuming, but I love the look of a finished piece. It's like painting with thread.

And you can embroider virtually anything! Being a huge fan of dolphins, I did one piece of a dolphin and then adorned it with feathers and beads. Teddy bears are another fun subject to work with. I tend to favour contemporary subjects for my work.

How about u?

One of the reasons I took on the embroidery site was because of my love of hand embroidery. I've been stitching for almost 30 years now, and find that I am constantly surprised at how much there is to learn!

I'm glad you like my avatar! Yes - I am an anime fan or a sort - Gatchaman is my absolute fave anime. My avatar is an anime/chibi version of Remus and Sirius from the Harry Potter series.

I love your pic of the dolphin - when you stitched it, what stitches did you use? And what threads? The picture link took me to the actual photo, not the embroidery.

As for me - you can see some of the pieces I've stitched at:

My Yahoo Pictures
and another couple at : My DeviantArt gallery

I love your beckoning cat avatar. I love the legend attached to it - and I love the cats themselves!

Hi!
silly me. i put the wrong link in. here's the embroidered piccie
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l133/v-gal/embroidereddolphinframed.jpg
i used mostly satin stitches, and a few of the ones used to make flowers. the name escapes me right now. it's kind of like a knot stitch. I used regular cotton embroidery thread. but now I like to use perle, because of the way the strands are bound together so nicely.
i'll have a look at your pieces as well! that'll be fun! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Very nice! Probably the knot name you're looking for is French Knots or (if they're long knots) bullion knots.

Perle is a nice thread to use, because of it's lustre. For Satin stitch, however, stranded cotton works better because it's not bound together. Stranded cotton is designed to be pulled apart to use.

I like how you incorporated the feather in the piece as well.

I really like what you've done with that

Hi
I have been doing hand embroidery since i was 5 with my grandmother. Ummm Im 51 now. I have always loved it. Seems like it is soo very creative.I remember lots of stories from women who have done it over the years. There is a sense of acomplishment when you finish a peice. I decided this time to do a rug for my little guest room. Even put some metallic floss in it. Its turning out pretty nice. Winter is comming so ill have more time now to finish it. Hand embroidery builds self worth and self estem and we all need alittle of that now and again dont we?

The Jacobean piece is my favorite. Where did you find the instructions or pattern?

Look forward to seeing a piccie of the rug when you finish it. But can you bear for people to walk on it? Or will you somehow hang it on a wall as artwork?

Here's a cute little kitty cat that i did. Though maybe I made the stiches too tight? The fabric is a bit puckered!

After all these years it is time to learn some new stitches. Can anyone tell me if you know of a good book that explains how to do the different stitches? The work you ladies have done is truely beautiful!
