With the public school year getting ready to kick off I was wondering if anyone just 'schools' from fall to spring or if you find it easier to go year round.

I don't want to give the impression that learning only happens between September and May. I'd rather him know and understand that learning is life long pursuit and something to enjoy, not something you sludge through in order to get a peice of paper.

I'm think of just recorded hours until we reach the required number of hours. In My state it is 1,000 hours a year with the year begaining July 1st and ending June 30th.
I've played around with what we do now and I figured if I record everything (I'm talking everything from cooking to outings with the local HS group to the mazes and "educational" stuff) that we will reach the 1,000 hours in a few months time. Hopefully that, in addition to keeping some of his "work," will work if we are challeged. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Our family schools year round. We have to turn in attendance reports monthly until we hit 180 days of "school" each year, 4.5 hours per day. This is the first time I have to do this with the move to a new state.

What I plan on doing is just checking off the days on a monthly calendar for each kid that they "school" (which I scoff at, but that's a different topic) and when we hit 180 I stop. I am not a fan of giving the district anything more than is legally required per the law (as compared to what the school claims is legally required, they are usually wrong IME)
