I thought I was airy (especially after 15+ years of ballet) but my teacher says I'm very much earthy. I think my hips and thighs are weighing me down! LOL
So how about you? :-)

Im not sure to be honest,I am at the beginning of my dancing journey,so at the moment i am working on being smooth and supple.
sounds like you have alott of movement in your hips which i think is awesome. what style does your teacher teach? thats awesome that you danced for so long.what made you turn to bellydance?

I only just started taking belly dance classes and I don't know which I really feel. I'd have to say, mostly stiff, but that's slowly changing...lol...

Don't worry Rae that will change!
Indogia, I was trying to say that I think my hips and arse need to be smaller. LOL!
My teacher teaches both, though by pure chance, in 3 different classes, we're currently learning choreography for 3 different veil dances.
I started bellydance as I just had no calling to re-start ballet after 19 years away from it. I had tried briefly in my early 20s but I discovered, despite knowing French really well, that I'd forgotten all the French terms! LOL
I was working out at a local studio and did a 2-hour workshop to see if I liked it. Naturally, after 120 minutes, I was completely hooked! That was just in May last year. :-)

you know,I was just thinking as I do occasionally..lol
in ballet you are trained to reach up and be airy and graceful,I think its going to add something amazing to your dancing.
whatever you feel just dance it,I know that you are better than you realise.
your grounding will come, but i hope that essence of lightness will remain with you and be a part of you,it will give you your uniqueness.
just a thought!!!!

Hey thanks Amanda. :-) One of the classes I do is called "Ballet for Bellydancers" and we do plies, ronde de jambe, battement and grande battement, arabesques etc. etc. We all wear ballet shoes for that class, and one of my classmates wears block shoes every now and then. She came from even more of a ballet background than me. :-)
