OK, a new month is here! What birds are you seeing in your back yard now? I'm seeing TONS of titmice as all the titmice families come for food. Also grackles, doves, the pair of towhees, the pair of rose-breasted grosbeaks, and an assortment of house finches and goldfinches. Oh, and the chipping sparrows

I've got the same but have some additional gold finches now that they found the thistle feeder.

The feeder was an inexpensive model and I had to put it together. The dang gone squirrels riped part of it off and all the thistle is on the ground. I covered the hole with clear tape and hope they leave the rest of it alone.

LOL Angie...been there, done that!!!

I learned a few years ago that its a wise investment to only buy feeders with some kind of metal around the seed ports. It can get costly at first, but they last a long time. Those pesky squirrels have no trouble chewing thru plastic...

My regular birds make themselves scarce for awhile, then come back with their babies...I've only seen the cardinal adults at dusk for a few weeks, so I think they're still nesting.

grackles, starling, cowbirds (ever faithful)
blue jays
chickadee w/babies
house finches w/babies
mourning dove
house sparrow w/babies
titmouse
downey woodpecker
red-breasted nuthatch (1st siting in weeks)
goldfinches (sporaticly)
crows
robins
cardinals

I thought I heard titmouse babies in the tree but couldn't spot them. Lots of activity from the adults.

Thistle on the ground isn't necessarily a bad thing - in my seed experiment, the doves love it!

I don't know where my chickadees have gone. Usually I have hordes of them, more than anything else. This year they just aren't around. Hmmmmmm.

My hawk came by for a brief visit today! the squirrel was picking up the thistle that spilled from the feeder. He'd burrow into the grassy area, put his hands up to his face and munch, munch! I guess he likes thistle.

Hi Angie...you got some strange squirrels..

The thistle is the only thing safe in my yard. They also haven't been able to get at the peanut cage " yet " because of an awesome baffel..but they sure do try!!

I wish I had been able to get to my camera quickly this afternoon. The squrrel was on the thistle feeder eating like mad. There is either no food available or it is a squirrel with strange taste.

That is too strange, I've also found that thistle and squirrels don't mix. They'll go for everything else first. I put down some cracked corn for the squirrels and they seem to leave everything else alone.

I really want to get a little pond with a fountain. Maybe that'll be my weekend project
