I received a question from the comment submission page, but when I tried to reply, the e-mail came back with no such mailbox. I will post the question and answer here in the hopes that the submitter will read it here.
I have Zebra finches who have babies that are fully feathered and almost
own there own and the parent birds have started pulling the tail feathers
out of the babies, what is up with this
My answer
There are a couple of possibilities, but the main answer is likely that you'll need a larger cage if you are going to keep them all together. The parents may be wanting to start another clutch and these babies would have left by now if they were in the wild. They may be trying to chase them away. Or it just may be that there are now too many birds in the cage and, again, they are trying to chase the babies away. Taking the babies out & giving them their own cage or just getting a much larger cage would probably solve the problem.
