My local craft store just began to offer tatting classes so I signed up. It was a 2 hour class (during which the only correct knots I made were accidents) but when I got home I sat down with my shuttle and figured it out! Then I popped onto the tatting page to figure out how to make picots and joins (no one in the class managed to get the knots right so the instructor never covered picots and joins). Just want to say thanks! Great site with great info!

Anyone have any tips for someone just starting out?

Hi, welcome to the world of tatting and congratulations on figuring it all out.

My main tip is to take things step by step one thing at a time and don't use very fine thread to begin with - aim for size 20 and then the finer sizes will come with practice.

I'm glad you like my site and find it helpful.

Would like to know how I can find a teacher of tatting for my grandaughter (aged 14 years). We were on holiday in Glengarry, Scotland and met a lady there who showed us some of her lovely samples. I would like to find someone in Burnley, Lancashire,UK, or near who teaches absolute beginners.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I would recommend that you contact the Ring of Tatters via their web site at www.ringoftatters.org.uk, they are the UK organisation specialising in tatting and will be able to put you in touch with tatters in your area.
