Is there anyone here who suffers with DID or Multiple Personality disorder?

Hi, I (we) have DID. Are you a multiple, or just interested in the subject?

Hi bluebutterfly,
Yes, I am a multiple. I thought I had integrated all my alters two years ago, but after a personal trauma recently, one or possibly two more have emerged. They were probably there all the time, but now one of them is VERY active, and almost sent a very insulting e-mail to my ex partner. [we broke up three weeks ago.] I found the draft in my unsent box, but I suspect that he/she wanted me to find it, rather than send it. A sort of 'wake up' call for me.

I just hoped that there may have been someone else on the forum who has experience DID or Multiple Personality Disorder, so that I could talk to someone who understands.

Thank you SO much for answering. I will be grateful for anything you might wish to share.

Love and Peace.

I also have D.I.D was diagnosed about eight years ago by a very understanding psych problem is she has now retired and I am still struggling to find a doctor who will take me seriously and who beleives in it. Sometimes i find myself laughing when i hear people saying it doesnt exist, try telling that to the eight years old child who keeps spending all my money to buy things that she thinks will make me happy again or to the 18 year old who wants to have sex with anything she can. Argh sometimes i really hate this disorder but i hate societys reactions to it even more. I have lost many friends becasuse they could not deal with it.

It is very sad when people refuse to accept psychological diagnoses.

It's like if they can't see the wound, they don't believe in it. I don't have DID, but I do suffer from depression and bipolar, and get similar treatment, or have people treat me like I have the plague and they might catch the "crazies" if they spend too much time with me. <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

Fairykat, I did notice both you and Patience are from Autralia. Maybe you two should think about meeting for lunch or something. I know it made a huge difference in my life to meet other people who were going through the same things I was. It was like a wake-up call "I'm not alone - there really are other people like me that understand!"

Hang in there ladies. Just remember, you are through the trauma that cause this to happen in the first place, so you are finished with the worst of it. Now it's just putting it back together again. It may be slow and painful - but nearly as painful as the actual trauma.

I just wrote a long post, but my computer crashed and so it didn't get on the board. Now, I just have to to say hi. I agree it's outrageous that not only many people in the general poplulation don't believe in DID, but lots of shrinks don't either. It's like being a unicorn!! Let's keep posting and we can support each other here.

Take good care,
Trish

I am in Brisbane. where are you?

I know exactly what you mean about losing friends. It happens to me all the time, and I find they don't understand when sometimes they 'meet' one of my alters, who is quite different from the 'me' they know.

Do any of yours ever get onthe computer and write e-mails to people and say things they shouldn't? AAAAAAH!

Everyone, I just thought of something else to toss in to the discussion. I have recently [5 weeks ago] lost my partner to someone else and the shock [it was completely out of the blue] has seemed to have 'brought out' some I didn't know about, unless I have 'split' again. Is it possible to split again after all this time? [I am 67 yrs old]

My therapist thinks I have 'created' another to cope with the trauma, as I am not physically well. Do any of you have any ideas about this?

I'm in Sydney at the moment, moving to Brisbane next month.

Mine dont tend to write emails they shouldn't have had that happened only once. One of mine gets on to ebay all the time when we can not afford to get anything and i find myself having to pay $100 to the things she has bought...which are always things that I want but have decided not to get. She tells my partner that she does it to make me happy - yay for having some that have coexisting ability..
