That's still quite cheap, we pay something or other (look this bit up) here, can't remember now, but I'm sure it's more than that. You can check it out if you don't beleive me, but (put something in here) etc. Not one of my best posts this one, but that's the problem with being an enigma, sometimes I'm a mystery to myself.

We complain about gas prices in America but when I hear how much other people pay, it makes me realize how lucky we are! Freespirit, you pay $1.30 a liter and we pay, on the east coast, $2.85 a gallon. You pay almost TWICE as much in Australia as we do in America because a gallon is almost 4 liters. WOW ! You all sure do have to pay alot to travel. I looked up "Streuth" and saw a VW Beetle car with a beetle shaped camper... I bet that would be good on gas mileage.

Bike riding is a good idea for short distances. Carpooling saves gas, too. My husband and I try to organize our shopping needs into one day trip by planning a travel route so we don't have to double back to any stores while we do our errands and shopping. It's amazing how when gas was cheaper, we would just run to the store to see what was on sale. With the price of gas so high, we look at the sale sheets and make lists, then go all in the same day.

Truthfully, my husband just corrected me... LOL I guess... when he had a government job and had a take home car with free gas, we could go anywhere we wanted, anytime and never had to think about gas prices. Once he retired and gas prices started going up, THEN we had to modify our shopping habits. That is what he just corrected on what I said.

We all have to make adjustments and some are harder than others (and others are more expensive than some).

I heard on the news that that "gas pill" does little to nothing as far as improving gas mileage goes.

Remember when gas used to cost as low as 69 cents a gallon? And this was just 4 years ago back in 2002!! *sigh....*

I was forwarded this email today and thought it was a good idea. Although I believe in using renewable resources, this might help for now:

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive It came from one of
his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It's worth your
consideration.
Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by
next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We
need to take some intelligent, united action.
Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the
"don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last
April or May!

The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue
to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an
inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of
this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read on and
join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap.
Me too! It is currently

$2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC
nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP
at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS
control the marketplace..not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more
each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see
the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not
purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.

How?

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from
the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are
not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they
reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have
an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers.
It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep
reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more
(30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =
3,000).and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we
will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then
30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you
guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

The thing is why do Americans pay lower gas prices than everyone else?
Would it have anything to do with the war????

It may be a bit inconvenient at times but none the less is a message to larger companies...carpool.

For myself I know it costs $7.00 from my home to the city and back just one day a week. Multiply that by 4 like myself and $30.00 is offered up in the name of convenience just one day a week.

I live 18 min from the city and spend quite a bit of time in traffic. Just to give an idea. When people have children pick-up it can be difficult..it would take some organizing but there would be more money in the pocket for other things.

1) dump your SUVs and pickup trucks
2) get off your fat [censored] and walk a mile
3) coast to the stop signs and red lites
4) Keep a steady foot on the gas pedal.
Don't worry about someone getting ahead of you.
5) Don't tailgate.
