Hi everyone. I did place a post, it may be on another page??
I am currently hand feeding a gouldian finch. There was 4, but three died. I went on line to research the cause of death, and read up on 'Air Sac Mites' as I thought this was the cause. In the article, it talked about 'Aspiration'. Where when hand feeding, the formula if too runny can get into their lungs, and death occurs almost instantly. I also noticed a 'Clicking' sound that was come from them, when I held the container up to my ear, this why I thought it was the air sac mites. The one remaing gouldian is eating well, it is now 11 days old. I still hear the clicking sound. The little one ( well it's not as little as the others) is starting to get bigger and is changing in color, its head and the wings are coming in green, where the feathers will soon appear. The mother abandoned them, as she did with her clutch last year, I have 2 healthy 8 month old females which I hand fed from day 7. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? He/She is eating well I feed every 1 to 2 hours, and only give it small amounts of formula, which I make thicker now. The article read said there was no cure for aspiration, but this one has made it this far, and I want to save it!!! I would appreciate any suggestions, comments,or advice that anyone has. Like I mentioned it has come this far and it seems to be a fighter, and I would hate to lose it.
Thank You.
