I started as a child. I use to make those dolls from yarn(I guess you would classify that as a doll???)where you would wrap yarn around cardboard and tie off their heads, arms and legs if they were a boy and not for girls which made them look like they were wearing skirts. I advanced to fabric dolls when I was pre-teen and teen as I had a younger cousin I made dolls for as presents.

On our Doll Making site we have several articles about making yarn dolls. Last Christmas I decorated our tree with all homemade ornaments including the dolls in this photo:

Those are exactly the dolls I began making as a child. I remember helping my mom make some for a school bazar to raise money.
