Okay, kmslape and Kathy, I've looked everywhere and have narrowed the search down to Patti Page as the artist who in January 1950 had the #1 song. So, I agree with you kmslape, because she had so many hits, but it was very hard to find THE one that was listed as THAT ONE hit. I found Mockingbird Hill (Horton) by Patti Page went GOLD in 1950 and Tennessee Waltz went to #1 and stayed there for 30 weeks. It is considered to be THE song that changed country music and she was the 1st and only artist to have a #1 pop, R&B, & country crossover. Tennessee Waltz was a flip side, filler (side B) and it is the 3rd highest selling single behind Elton John's "Candle in the Wind" and Bing Crosby's "White Christmas". Pretty remarkable.
