What are yours? I just received Rachel Brice's 'Yoga Drills and Isolations' and Sonia and Isaam's 'Art of the Drum Solo.' They are both incredible! I love drum solos and we will be performing soon. Sonia's dvd helped me a lot the first time I viewed it.

I also love Atea's "Magical Motion"

These are my favorites because while they are workouts, the focus is still on learning and perfecting your bellydance moves.

Our instructor will be teaching us how to come up with "Oh, [censored]" moves this week - the move you do when you're improvising and get tripped up!!

My favorites are the FCBD and Gypsy Caravan DVDs for studying.

For working out I love Rachel Brice's Drills and Isolations too!

For watching I love the BDSS ones, because they have a variety of styles, and all the dancers are very talented, and the EEMED videos are wonderful for inspiration, but they are only available on VHS.

Oh Parthena! On Good Morning Atlanta they featured Atlanta's major Bellydancing school - the Nazeem Allayl bellydance school (who are actually listed on Asmina's page!) They looked wonderful! They had the four newscasters trying it, too. 1 woman has a bit of middle eastern heritage in her and she could just do it! The other woman could shimmy pretty good, but the two men (1 white, 1 black) just had me rolling on the floor laughing!

The big black guy kept saying "drop it like its hot, drop it like its hot." LOL

My incisions hurt!

LOL, I hope they're better by now! How exciting that you plan to attend that school! I'm glad that you were inspired by their performance! As zebeebah said, the Bellydance Superstars performance DVD's are also inspiring. I like "Live at the Folies Bergere" best. Every one of the dancers has a unique style.

I just got Jillina's Level 2 DVD and I love it. I've found that I got a lot more out of videos and DVD's after I had several classes.

Hi Indy,

I like Neena and Veena's "Basic Moves" best. I think their others are too hard for beginners, but you can get a lot more out of them if you've had a few classes. They are beautiful dancers!

I think that Atea's "Magical Motion" is one of the best for beginners.

I love Suhaila's latest workout/performance DVD's. This woman is an amazing dancer and just watching her live and on DVD, you FEEL her passion and her deep love of the dance.

She Raks!

Hi Stephanie,

Do you mean Suhaila Salimpour? There's another Suhaila I've heard of.

I don't care much for Salimpour's sexual style, but as a dancer she's still incredible and I wouldn't mind learning from her. She has amazing control over every single muscle! I want some of her DVD's but the price is a bit high. I also want Ansuya's and they're even higher, lol!

I just got Jillina's level 2 practice and it's great.

My personal favourite is Ishtar's Arabesque Belly Dance & Exotic Eastern Moves*

It's a presentation of belly dancing and exotic Eastern dance moves for fitness and fun. Don't try any of the moves after eating a big pizza though, or they'll be trouble.

* love your work

I would imagine Bellydance is like any other type of major workout - eat something about 2 hrs before to give you energy (no milk) and then load some protein after.

I mean, after all you are working some major ab and oblique muscles here! - Not unsmiliar to the muscles you use in kayaking to be hones, just going in different directions!

Hmmmm, I wonder how bellydancers would be at kayaking - kind of like that movie "Cool Runnings" where they used sprinters for the Luge. Makes you think!
