Ok maybe i should do my hair history firstly... my hair is naturally dark brown, but noticiably different from black. 2 yrs ago my best m8 convinced me to let her put blonde highlites in my hair so i let her do it and it was gr8.. eventually i got sick of the roots and decided to dye my hair in the feria dye golden flash brow which is kinda metalic and it looked good and then after a few months my friend put blonde highlites over the top and it looked good.Eventually i got sick of the roots again and askd her to dye it back to my original colour thinking it would be ok... it was ok at first but after a few washes i realised that in the sunlight my hair looked red being the summer and being out in the sun all the time the dye wore off to reveal the highlights underneath and these turned gingery. I had lived with this for 6 months and decided to try and dye over the top of this again (another DIY job of course) the colour i tried to dye it being dark brown again... my friend left it for longer to try to cover up the gingery colour and it ended up in my hair turning black... i looked like mortica adams!!! was not happy!! Now it is 2 weeks after and ive noticed the reddy tones coming through which i hoped would have gone ..... what i now want is for my hair to be medium to dark brown with blonde and light brown highlights... is this achieveable in the sense that the blonde wont be brassy and i can cancel out the red tones when im out in the sunlight????

Long i know! sorry! xx

Hi Suze,
Welcome to the forum. This is not a very popular answer for DIYers but I suggest that you go to a hairdresser to have it fixed. she (or he) can use a color remover and then re-color it in the shade that you want. She will also condition your hair so that it won't fade fast.

One more thing, cover your hair when you are in the sun. Sunlight will fade any haircolor.

The new color removers are easier on your hair, but it's a good idea to get a conditioning treatment at the same time.

i talked to my uncles friend on the phone who is a hairdresser and although he hasnt seen my hair i explained what i had done to it over the past 2 years and its current state now and he said he wouldnt attempt anything on it? He did not say why... and then i said about him stripping my hair and he said he wouldnt do that either because my hair would turn orange maybe even translucent? What does that mean? Seeing as he has said he wont do anything is there any point in going to another hairdressers for a second opinion?

Tnx

Many hairdressers don't want to do 'repair work' - and I can't blame them.
You can ask another hairdresser - make sure that she is very experienced in hair color. And I would not ask for any highlights. The most you can hope for in a better shade of brown.

i had highlights done and they came out nice.... new problem though... the bleach dried out my hair soooo bad, i just washed my hair myself for the first time after getting it done and it was all going good until my hair started to dry and i brushed it, its all breaking off!!! Is there anything i can do to minimalise the breakage?

Your hair needs protein and moisturizing treatments.
You can do them as often as you shampoo and have the time.

[color:"purple"]i made the mistake of using feria on my hair, too...ended up with a 'lovely' orange - just like ronald mcdonald...i was trying to go lighter tho...and highlighting it worked (i spent $150 for an experienced colorist to fix the color - he didn't get rid of the orange).

anyhoo...had the same problems with breakage. i recommend cholestral - it's a deep conditioner that black people use when they straighten their hair. it worked wonders on mine!!! i now use it regularly as i'm now just highlighting and that's pretty rough on the hairshaft.[/color]
