We've been having fun over in the asthma section posting our favorite Christmas Carols & songs. I heard this one on the radio today and of course had to put it up. It's one of those that no matter how many times i hear it - I still cry!

I have even called up my local DJ here in Atlanta on 104.7 THE FISH and told him that "Christmas Shoes" is a horrible song to play during rush hour traffic! People can't drive when they are crying. They should only play this song when people are nice and safe behind their desks and have plenty of tissues handy. To my mortification, he actually played what I said on the radio!

Ah well. This song by Newsong just hits your heart. It is definitely what Christmas should be about. The little boy in the song is focused on one thing; making his mama beautiful before she goes to see Jesus.

Jesus and giving to others - sounds like Christmas to me.

The Christmas Shoes

It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line
Tryin' to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing 'round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes

His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn't believe what I heard him say

Chorus:
Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here"
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes

So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
I'll never forget the look on his face when he said
Mama's gonna look so great

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight

Bridge:
I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time
You see she's been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight
if Mama meets Jesus tonight[/color]

Oh the faith of a child! Merry Christmas!

Our worship leader at church was supposed to sing that yesterday at church - it was in the bulleting - but she got up and said she wouldn't sing it because she had yet to get through it without crying. So she sang another up-beat Christmas song.

I'm in tears just reading the words.
Nothing like a good cry to start off the week!:)

Hi there, The Christmas Shoe song tugged at my heart... I sung this song at our Christmas Eve event at church, There was not a dry eye in the church.. It took everything I had not to cry.. I ended up looking up at the stain glass window, I couldn't make eye contact with anyone because I would have started to cry.

Beautiful song !!!

Billy Goodwin is the lead vocalist for Newsong on "Chsritmas Shoes" and he does sound quite a bit like Bob Carlisle; or rather I should say Carlisle sounds like Goodwin, because Newsong has been around a bit longer and Billy Goodwin is one of the founding members! It is very easy to confuse the two though.

They both have that kind of voice that just sinks right to your heart, not to mention the talent for writing songs that just wring the tears from you. I have told my local radio station that it is not fair to play either song during rush hour traffic, because it is tempting car wrecks. I can't drive and cry at the same time!!!

Sorry about that, all forums should be set to not allow anonymous posts, for this very reason It's sad to think that, with all the charity work available on the web, this guy chose to spend his time posting spam messages. Think of the good he could have done with that time instead!
