Oh my , I thought only some other ladies had this problem !!
I am gonna take a picture of the Country Blue yarn I bought last week and send the picture of the defected yarn skein to Coats and Clark. The yarn has 7oz, as we are becomming aware of the weight change.
And compaired to the other 8 oz ones I had it is more course looking and feeling and has those bad FAT and SKINNY sections.
I wonder how many messed up Skeins are out there ?????
And the Country Blue is the color I have been using for a lot in the Squares I have been making.
I hope the Red and the Purple and Green I have are not messed up. I want to make Grape Hotpads for my DIL.

I noticed that the other day and I am REALLY disappointed with them (Red Heart), I think it has something to do with the "Moda Dea" yarn not selling so well because it is expensive and really not that great of a yarn. Maybe we should all get together and email them with our concerns. I have not tried "Patons" acrylic yarn but if Red Heart keeps up with their nonsense I will be trying Patons.

I buy the Caron One Pounders when they are on sale. I bought Red Heart and it was so messed up I had to unravel it, wind it into a ball and then on top of that some sections were pieced together and knotted together to make a consecutive strand. Grace

Take it back to the store and either get a refund or another skein.

I, too have been becoming increasingly disappointed in the Red Heart Yarns. Not only have they been knotted and pieced together (which I have to cut apart, since I don't want the lumps in my piece) but I've noticed a great difference in texture from one skein to the next - within the same lot number, no less. I always wind my yarn into balls before I start working with it, and the current state of the Red Heart yarns is a very good reason for me to continue doing so.

good, so it's not just me that's been lucking out with Red Heart. I had started this Sage Green, single crochet, twin sized bed blanket (it's taking forever, oy)and halfway through the blanket you can see the colour change, all thought it are the fat and skinny pieces... same with my squares. Grrr!

I had the same thing happen on the sweater that I crocheted recently...bought a bunch of Red Heart Blue, all the same dye lot...looked great...went back to WM to get more, and the other skeins were thicker and a bit darker and you can see the color change on the bottom of the sweater. I kind of wished that I had the thicker and darker skeins when I started the sweater...The thicker feeling ones were really nice, didnt split like the earlier skeins did, and it just feels better. Those 3 or 4 thicker skeins must have been a fluke or some one set the yarn quality on their machines to excellent for those skeins.
I have noticed that some RH has "Made in USA" on their yarn bands, and those are the ones that always seem to be of higher quality...the ones that say "Made in Turkey" are always thin, with lots of breaks and big chunky pieces running through them.

I had a ball of yarn that had been put back in my stash (don't know what brand) and every few yards there was a tie to keep the yarn going in one piece. I went ahead and used it in a Christmas tree I was crocheting so it didn't matter. I think there has always been flaws in yarn but this is ridiculous.

After all the problems I had had with the Red Heart yarns, and reading all the problems our fellow crochet posters have been having, I wrote a letter to Coats & Clark about the problems I had experienced. I fully expected to get a nice form-letter of the "thank you we'll look into it", but was pleasantly surprised with yesterday's mail. It was a very nice letter, asking for specific samples of the yarn and the paper band around the "offending" yarns. Just my luck, once I wind the yarn into a ball I throw the band away, but I still think I can come up with some samples to send them in the postage-paid envelope they provided. I would urge anybody else who has had problems to write to them too. There's strength in numbers, folks.

That is wonderful news I am really just as surprised as you are. I am sure that they are trying to improve their yarns as much as possible because Solutia yarns just went out of business so Red Heart will want to give us all the best that they can.
