Generally you'll find two schools of thought on this: some say they don't do well with fish, others say go for it. My opinion is that you should do what you think is best.

A general rule of thumb would be to only introduce fish that are #1- compatible with your water temps and ph, #2- are social fish, and #3- larger than your frogs.

Anything smaller than your frog is going to be seen as a food item and aggressive fish may fight with your frog or visa versa; ie: don't put a betta fish or an oscar in the tank.

Some ideas for fish would be algae eaters and fish that feed off the bottom of the tank. Loaches, 'wall-sucker' fish, tetras, bala sharks, even a gold fish or two(but they can be quite messy)may work for you. Just be sure to watch for overcrowding, you need to regulate the ph for the frogs and too many fish or sick fish can quickly alter that and cause harmful problems.

I'm sure if you ask the clerk at your local pet store or pet supply chain they will be able to recommend some other 'social fish'.

I hope this helps! Good luck with your frogs!

I had an african dwarf a couple years ago and I had him in my community tank, with tetras and things...he was fine in there and the fish ignored him and he ignored the fish.

I now have the larger african clawed frog and they are not reccomended to be in a tank with fish as they are gluttons and will eat anything they can get into their mouths. My guy is a fatty...:o)Also they cannot be in the same tank with the african dwarf frogs,as they will eat them. But I think it is ok to have the small dwarfs in a community tank,as long as the fish are not big enough to eat the frogs...or you don't have aggressive fish.

In my tank I have Buenos Aries tetras, white diamond tetras, a purple emporer tetra and a pleco. The tanks is 55 gallon. I was think of adding 2 dwarf guaormies(sp?) and 2 angels along with 2 african dwarf frogs. Will this be ok?? and how good are they at getting out of the tank? I have hard mixed reviews about them getting out? Thanks

The albino frogs are NOT African Dwarf Frogs. They are African Clawed Frogs---completely different. They will get big and you should definitely not put them in with a betta. The pet stores have a habit of not telling you this. They will also try to eat anything they can put in their mouths. I have one, but he's not an albino. His name is Peepers and he's a great frog---I've had him for about a year now and I don't have any fish in his tank. I've heard that the ACFs can live with goldfish (as long as the goldfish are too big for the ACF to get into its mouth) but not sure if this is good advice or not. Anyone have any experience with ACFs and goldfish together?

Not quite sure what you're asking. And you didn't specify what kind of African frogs---Dwarf or Clawed frogs? In any case, I wouldn't combine frogs with guppies. They have different temp/habitat needs. And if you want the guppies to breed, frogs have pretty hearty appetites and will eat just about anything. But an all-guppie tank sounds great. Bear in mind that they will mate, so make an informed decision on colour and male/female ratio. Go to a store where the employees know what they're talking about and ask plenty of questions. I haven't had guppies since I was a kid, but try Googling guppies and you're sure to find a helpful site that will give you lots of info.

However, if you really want frogs and have a 20 gallon tank. You could get two African Clawed Frogs (that would have to live by themselves---no fish) or you could get a couple of African Dwarf Frogs and you could definitely add some fish. Make sure you're very specific about what kind of frog you're looking for at the pet store. If the frogs are albino, they're clawed frogs---period. It's easy to tell the difference, once you see them both. Make sure you know what you're looking at before you go that route. But if you get ADFs, I wouldn't suggest gupppies, but maybe a school of tetras (any of the colours) or white clouds. Even cat glass fish (but don't do the painted ones---it's a cruel thing to do to inject the fish and they don't live very long anyway because of it). ACFs can live in harmony with any of the peaceful small fish. Do some research and see what appeals to you. There are so many varieties of tetras that you're sure to find something you like. Just be sure to get a school of whatever peaceful fish you put in there. That's at least 6-8 fish. They're happier that way and you can really see them in their natural behaviour (or as close to natural in a tank). But with 20 gallons, you can really have a nice little habitat. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

would 2 white cloud minnows, 2 african dwarf frogs, and 1 clown loach be too much to have in a 2 gallon tank? [color:"pink"] [/color]

just a note, African clawed frogs and I *think* dwarf frogs can live up to 15-30 yrs. They are the same frogs that you get in the grow a frog kits. They are neat animals but they are dirty and eat alot. They used to be used in pregnacy tests and are invasive critters in several areas on the West Coast of the USA. Also, they are illegal in CA and OR.

Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates.-
