Hi Jaga, well once again with a recepe with sourkraut. Now then, this is designed for four people. If you become overly hundgry, then two persons, if you decide to drink the left over wine, best to include your poor husband.

We just call this one: Oktoberfest... or, just eat it any time of the year, who cares...

INGREDIANTS:

5 pounds meaty spareribs
3 tblsp butter
1 dash pepper
2 onions sliced
1 carrot grated
3 apples sliced
1 1/2 cup dry wine (that is when you drink the remainder...)

preheat oven 350 degrees (F)

In skillet, lightly brown spareribs in butter (your choice). Sprinkle with pepper. In seperate bowl, mix together sourkraut, onions (by this time with drank wine, who cares) and carrots. Place half this mixture in baking dish. Add half the apple slices and all spareribs. Cover with remaining saurkraut mixture, apple slices, and wine (the part I like best, because I have drank it, sorry). Cover and bake 1 hour45minutes.

If by chance you are trying to remove weight, forget it, other wise, just simply injoy this meal, because you have drank the left over wine, and your poor husband, has not a clue...love is just around the corner, and you deserve it..

Charles

This thread made me hungry. I have a bowl of Kimchi in my fridge and it is a good time for a snack. Love the stuff. Learned to eat it when I worked with the Korean Marines in Viet Nam.

And then you can down some adult beverage before diving into the Philippean Balots. I love Kimchi and there are many people around here who make that little tidbit. Poor Leslie, he doesn't know what he is missing out on.

Balots are only savored when you have San Miguel on hand.

After all culture is important.

Bob, I don't think there's anything polish about your "whiskey" cure.

Down here in the south my grandmothers (generations) have been mising whiskey, lemon juice, and honey as a cough remedy. Other's use peppermint instead of the lemon. (I grew up on the lemon)

My mom used to keep a mason jar of the stuff mixed up during the winter, especially during vocal festival time while I was growing up. I thought my dad was going to kill me one night when I was 16; when after a date, I came straight in, took a slug of our "medicine" and then proceeded to give him a night kiss. He wouldn't believe i hadn't been out drinking, and we had to get mom out of bed to vouvh for me!

(BTW - I never did "drink" until I was 20 - a whole year illegal!)

BellaAsthma host. I do believe this is one of those folk-remedies that really work. If you notice, all the non-prescription cold remedies contain alcohol . The home-brew stuff is a lot less expensive and IMHO works a lot better. Thank you for the smile (about drinking that mix before, and, your father getting upset). It really doesn't matter who claims it, it works.

Michelle,

In my day we would call that bootleg or moonshine.
