My sister has a raccoon that she has had for a couple of years now. Well the raccoon is sick. He refuses to eat, hasn't pooped, and when he does eat or drink, he regurgitates. She took him to the exotic vet and he thinks the raccoon has a blockage which I agree with. The vet gave him some medicine to put on his paws and nose but the raccoon refuses to cooperate.

Does anyone else have a raccoon and have any advice?

Also my sister refuses to feed the raccoon chicken or fish because she was told by someone that it will make the raccoon mean. Well I did some research and that is not true, though she will not believe me. It is more like talking to the wall when I discuss animal care with her.

Eating chicken or fish does not make a raccoon mean. Asked the vet's advice on how to administer the medication to the raccoon if he refuses to lick it off his paws and nose though I would wager a guess that he is when no one is looking but don't count on a guess. Back to the vet with this precious pet.

Haven't been here for a while, due to problems. Anyhow, an update. The raccoon was dx with liver failure and he was put to sleep. My sister blames herself but I think it is part of the grieving process.

Sorry to hear about your sister's pet. Thanks for the update. Did the vet happen to say what caused the liver failure? Any information we can share with others may come in handy someday.

Thanks,
