Not until you think it's long. Long generally starts after the hair passes your shoulders. But why should you leave the opinion to your roommate? It's your hair and if it's long, well, then it's long. If the roommate thinks the hair is too long and can't stand it, that's his/her problem.

Guess what? I give massages and reiki. More info here!

Do what you want to do.

The so called rules that are out there serve no purpose but to cause grief. If your hair is still growing and you haven't reached your goal length then let it grow. No one controls your hair but you.

I'm a 29 year old man. My hair is down to my hips and I plan to never let it be shorter again.

I also participate at many long hair care sites.

But I also like it here at Lynne's site. She's a nice helpful lady.

I wore my hair to the middle of my thighs for nearly fifteen years. I kicked a drug addiction ten years ago, and one of the hardest hit things on my body from the drugs was my hair. Since I was looking for a way to make a change, I cut my hair. We took 22" off in that first sitting... And my hair was up to about mid-back... Most of my friends considered that long, but to me it was sooooo short!

I've since cut it even shorter, and these days keep it up above my shoulders. Turns out its curly when its short... Who'da thunk? My hubby's hair is almost to his waist.

Personally, I think its all about where you are most comfortable wearing it... It shouldn't matter what anyone else thinks, its your hair. I've never understood "hair trends," especially when it pertains to length. If you like it long, wear it long.

As everyone else has said - you have to decide if you are happy with it.
If you are worried about whether it is attractive on you or if it flatters you -- then it is time to ask someone you trust to give you input. When you want to know something like that, someone else can actually see it better than you can.

The next best guide is a picture. Pictures always tell us the truth.

If you constantly have headaches from the weight of your hair, it might be too long.

If your hair gets caught in the tools or machinery that are part of your daily life, it might be too long.

If you hair is breaking off due to it's own weight, it might be too long.

If you keep stepping on the ends when you walk, your hair might be too long.

Otherwise, it's just a matter of your own personal preferences. You might ask your roommmate WHY they think your hair is too long.

I went to my hairdresser today to get some special treatment for my hair that's getting longer and longer. I mainly do it to protect my hair for the demi-permanent coloring I love so much and to keep it healthy so it can grow longer.
I'm not going to trim it unless the hair splits or when it starts to get annoying because of getting caught between everything. Even then, you can do all sorts of things like pony tails, braids, updo's, perms, etc.

like some in here, I have long long hair. I am generally plagued with large knots from time to time, so I tend to keep it in a twist in the back when Im just fiddling around the house or whatever.
My mom used to put my hair in two long braids but I've sort of gotten out of that

My hair reaches my waist now, and this is the second time I've grown it this long. In between these two growth spurts I had it shaved to a #4!

I'd always wanted to grow my hair long but I was never allowed to as a child. As a teenager therefore I let it grow to my waist for the first time and I know a lot of younger girls were so envious. Then when I started college I had it cut to just below my shoulders and I got so many comments about how much healthier it looked after that. I really haddn't known how to care for it properly or style such long hair. This time round I'm doing better, although I cut a layer into the back last year that I'm still trying to get rid of!

I'm now thinking of going shorter again. Just before winter I was thinking how much I would love to cut it really short and dye it blonde (I have very dark brown hair). But my husband reminded me of the dreaded drivers' licence and passport photos (which show long, dark hair). I'd hate to be stuck in immigration trying to prove my identity!

Oh could you imagine being stopped at the border?

Still.... people DO dye their hair and all..... I would hope I look somewhat better than my passport photos and I know I don't look quite as dead as my license pic would have you believe
