AAAAAUUUUUUGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!
OK, check out this link;
http://health.discovery.com/schedule/epi...amp;channel=DHC
This guy Brad Ryan is the same Brad that is in one of bowflex's commercials! He's the goofy, almost teenager looking guy that makes the offside comment about other people losing weight by eating sandwiches (comment on Subway's commercials). You know, it shows him as a VERY overweight school teacher, then shows him carrying this gorgeous model out of a pool.

I SAW this story on Discovery Health. He had gastric bypass surgery, and then a panniculectomy to remove the extra skin from around his waist and stomach! And in the documentary not once did they show a bowflex! He was at a real gym with a personal trainer helping him get beefed up and in shape!

Bowflex has a disclaimer on their ads that says weight loss is achieved w/ excercise and diet, but he had SURGERY!

I am wanting surgery, and keep getting berated for it. I'm constatnly told i can do it if I just try hard enough, I'm too lazy, etc, etc. Then these fitness people CHEAT and lead you to believe these people have lost ALL their weight through regular diet and exercise alone, when they had WLS all along.

OH I AM SO TICKED!!!!!!!!!

Michelle,

I saw the story myself on discovery health as well! The male in the commercial did have a number of surgeries that have changed his physical appearance for the better. I also saw the story on how the 50 year old grandmother had surgeries too! She's had breast implants, tummy tucks, face lifts, you name it! Her body ISN'T a result of the Bowflex. I am continuosly bothered by Boflex's ability to lie to its customers. The fact that they can't even attain actors who have truly used the Bowflex tells me alot. Think twice before buying the Bowflex people!

It's horrible, isn't it? But it's not only Bowflex. Think of the Diet Pill ads, and how they're so obviously airbrushed it's unreal. I find it disgusting that they can lie like that for a few thousand dollars.

Thank you for this topic! I am always saying "oh yeah right" to all of these commercials!!! My hubby loves the discovery channel plastic surgery before and after. People always say "I couldn't achieve what I wanted with diet/exercize so plastic surgery was the option for me". Since when is plastic surgery considered an option?!! Rant over...I will shut up now!

OK, just so as not to cause confusion - I used to be "musicalmom" before I got my editor position here - then I changed names so it fit better with my sites.

Since I wrote that 1st post, I did write to both the Fair Trade Comission (about what I felt was a breach of "truth in advertising") and to the Bowflex people themselves. Although I still see the grandmother commercial on (I did not know about her plastic surgery!), I have NOT seen Brad's commercial on TV since.

Also since that time, I myself have gone through gastric bypass surgery (just 3 weeks ago). After 5 years of weighing pros and cons- I decided it was the best decision for me. At 5'8" I wieghed 267, and had several co-morbidities, and although could lose some weight on diets - could not keep it off for any length in time. Also due to some back problems - excercise was excrutiating.

Well, I started working with a physical therapist about 4 months before my surgery, and have started back up with him this week. He will oversee my therapy and exercise regime for the first year after surgery - then I'll be on my own. But by that time I should be in a good routine!

I may do plastic surgery later to help take off extra skin, depending on how much I have left over after I lose all my weight, but I'll make that decision in a year or 2.

I will say that the Bowflex machine does not figure into my exercise program at all. It is not in my PT's gym, and so I will not be getting one for my hom either!

It went very well, thanks! I'm a little run down. It's a major adjutment for the body getting used to eating basically 1-2 oz of food at a time. I also can't eat the quick energy foods (carbs) right now, because its so important to get my protein in. I'll be able to add whole grain carbs in after 6 months, but I'll always have to keep my sugar below 5 grams. It's sort of like being a diabetic. But I've lost 25 lbs in 3 weeks.

I just started back my physical therapy and i'm starting to tolerate my vitamins and supplements, so hopefully my energy level will pick up soon.

I have a blog i'm keeping on the entire experience: Michelle's Gastric Bypass Blog

Hello everyone.....

Ok - I'm coming in with a white flag - not here to ruffle any feathers & I have no idea if anyone is still paying attention. However, I just wanted to comment on the Bowflex GRANDMOTHER and her so called "surgeries" that the New User "mikes" came in and talked about (by the way - 1 post and that was it??).

The reason that Bowflex still shows her commercials is because she did NOT EVER at any time have the surgeries that this user said she had. There was no Discovery show on her whatsoever - and if there had been - well then I smell a lawsuit - because she wasn't present for any Discovery show !!

HOWEVER, she did obviously have her breast done. But that has nothing to do with her age (she got them when she was 28 & done nursing 2 children). That also has nothing to do with Bowflex. Women of all ages, races and body size get Breast implants everyday.

There are so many tactics used these days in commercials to get the consumers attention. Obviously what works for some is not going to work for others. There are so many things that factor into the results of working out AND eating right.

Now if everyone here has seen the commercials with both Brad and the "grandmother" you will notice one thing - the before photos. Brad's before pictures were very overweight - but Donna's weren't. She lost 17 lbs - which can make a difference - especially at that age - but surgery - no.

Ok - I obviously know this woman - she is my mother. As my mother of course I'm going to stick up for her and as a frequent online user its hard to see certain things about her posted. I've only replied a few times to some posts - quickly and what I thought was quietly. But the last time I had some crazy lady come in and say she had been "chasing" ME on the net - waiting for the day to go off on me??? Since then I haven't posted.

My mom is a regular woman who let Bowflex know that she wanted to get "back" into shape since having an accident and they followed her progress. But that doesn't just work for anyone, as you know Bella Harmony.

It also wasn't easy for me & took me soooo long to finally get my butt in shape. My mom has always been in better shape than me and I'm 30. I've had 2 kids and gained 65 with my first and 50 with my second. I nursed both for a year and a half but I always kept plenty of weight on me.

I have small bones am 5' 6" & have just always been uncomfortable with myself and my body. For the first time ever I lost the last 30 lbs that I needed to (for 7 years I've had about 30 lbs to go). I'm shocked, as is my husband, mother and sister. Because I'm usually going through the fast food lane while they are all eating at Whole Foods and working out. Now of course 30 lbs isn't that much to some but I was always cranky, hot, uncomfortable and it is hard to lose those last pounds.

Well - sorry to go on like this. I don't even know if anyone will read it all. I just wanted to say something because I came on here for other topics and like this site.

So you can't believe everything you see on TV but you also can't believe everything you read on the internet - especially by a one post user!

Take care!

Jessica
