Have you all seen this?

http://www.nbc-2.com/articles/readarticle.asp?articleid=4101&z=3&p=

Some school systems are starting to teach NetSmartz, an online safety program in the classroom. It's been discussed on some other boards, and am just so impressed with this initiative.

I wondered if any of you homeschoolers were doing something similar, or even using the Netsmartz website to keep their kids safer online? It has a ton of great games and everything!

Thanks for the link - I think NetSmartz is a great program, I wish that the subject was given more air time!

I am curious though, how much homeschoolers use the internet? I went through public schools and I know the internet has had a major influence there, has it had the same (or even stronger?) effect on the homeschooling community?

I use the net to homeschool my children. I like to research information and find sites we can add into lessons.

My children's net useage is monitored and at a minimum except for sites I open for them to read.

How do you expect to handle it as they start getting older and doing more research, etc. online. (Seems like the days of ecyclopedias are long gone!).

My oldest will be fifteen on the thirtieth of this month.

I am not meaning that they never get to use the computers or practice skills on it. I mean that their time is monitored. The kids don't have their own computers so they are usually using one while my husband or I are in the room with them.

And to be sure that's the case even when we are not home, my husband has Windows password protected and has the ability to track useage on all our systems.
