I was looking up the geneologies of favorite perfumes and discovered something about myself that I didn't realize ~ I've got a thing for lily of the valley! Yeah, yeah, it's a fragrance oil and has a long history in modern perfumery (like, one of the most used scents) but it has this element to it that I'm attracted to ~ the element of memory. I remember my very first bottle of eau de toilette was a child's airy fragrance called 'Lily of the Valley'. Smelling lily of the valley today reminds me of my childhood dolls and the little house we used to live in when I was six. Isn't scent amazing?
So, here are my top three favorite scents, in order:
Chanel No. 19 ~ the geneology breaks down like this ~ top notes of bergamot, galbanum (explains the 'dirt' scent), neroli and hyacinth; middle notes of jasmine, lily of the valley, orris, rose and ylang-ylang; base notes of leather, musk, oakmoss, sandal & vetyver.
Lady Stetson ~ this was my 'dancing' scent back 15 years or so ago, and is comprised of: bergamot, mandarin, peach & raspberry; middle notes of heliotrope, jasmine, lily of the vally, orchid, orris, rose and ylang-ylang; base notes of amber, cedar, musk, olibanum, sandal, tonka and vanilla.
And last but not least, Vanilla Fields ~ yeah, I truly love the foodie scents ~ with top notes of bergamot (I must like this scent as well), cocoa, peach & mysterious 'fruit notes'; middle notes of geranium, jasmine & lily of the valley; base notes of amber, cedar, musk, sandal, tonka and vanilla.
So, what's your favorite nostalgic scent?
