Pity the poor person who likes to knit or crochet. You cannot take those on board a plane either. If you're going hunting or fishing you can pack your stuff in the suit casee and have it checked.

I am not sure what a harmful person could really do with these items. Hold still while I clip your toenails to death!!!?

I think that's my point of view. They let me carry on 6-packs of wine bottles when I come back from the Napa Valley. I could do a ton of harm with those. People want to feel safe - but really, if someone is trained in martial arts, their body is a lethal weapon. What can you do, you have to accept that life has risks.

True enuff. Maybe they are working to ban all metal from flights, lest they be assembled as part of a gun (I saw that in an X-Files epsiode...the gun was mostly plastic pieces from various things, but some metal was needed. One important part was a metal spring from a "pen").

There was also a Star Trek ep or movie where a gun was assembled from various non-related things that were made to lock together into a gun. I don't remember the ep or movie but I think there were Klingons.

Anyway, the direction of banning metal seems to be the case. Eventually they will have to prohibit belt buckles and jewelry if they really want to keep metal off planes.

There has to be a better way of detecting dangerous hardware. I guess if I want to do some crocheting or knitting I had better buy plasticware.

What about ceramic knives though? Those can be quite sharp. And shards of glass ... I really think that worrying too much about weapons on planes can't get us far. If someone wants to cause trouble, they will. In the meantime, millions of people fly without causing any trouble.

Recently I've found a really good deal for ceramic knives on ebay. The auction was created by this company called kitronics. First I bought a 5 inch cermic knife for myself then later I bought a 3inch and a 4 inch from their website. I believe they have one of the best deals. I recommend their online store for you knife lovers. www.mykitronics.com
