My first baby was a preemie and lived only 13 days. I went into horrible depression for 3 years, until I became pregnant with my second child. This was the answer to my prayers and life was good. On my daughter's 24th birthday, she ran some errands while her cake baked. The phone rang and instead of celebrating her birthday, we said goodbye to her in the hospital. It was raining, a curve in the road (1/2 mile from where I grew up), 30 mph with her seat belt on. As shocked as I was in the ER, I vowed NOT to become depressed,(again)and to be there for the other family members devastated by this. I kept my weekly schedule, I was there for others, these things helped. Stay busy, the alone times can be the worst. It helps to talk to other parents in this situation. Check out Forever Family Foundation. We may never understand why we outlive our children, but it happens. If you need to lean on somebody, do it. Let us be here for each other. <img src="/images/graemlins/heart.gif" alt="" />

John Newton, 1700's English pastor, adoptive father and hymn writer of the famous hymn, "Amazing Grace" penned his reflections on the death of his precious Eliza who died at the young age of 14. His memoirs of the last 3 weeks of her illness and her courageous faith in God and testimony are found in the book "Letters and Reflections to My Adopted Daughters" 2005 Pleasant Word a division of Wine Press Publishing. A most beautiful glimpse into his journey and how his heart was touched by his precious daughter's passing. An encouragement to anyone who has walked this very difficult and painful journey. Ask your local library to order a copy or find it on any online bookstore.

My Daughter's death is due to medical malpractice. As a result of a doctors negligence, my daughter died at five weeks.
