I had a pet ferret in junior high and high school, as they are legal in NJ where I grew up. I now live in CA and have known several ferret owners. Most of them have to take their pets out of state for vet care, and a few have had their pets seized and/or taken away.

There are many vets in CA that will see ferrets. It is awful that pets are seized, this is why the law must pass, and future laws written! Thank you for your comment.

I'm a Calif. native, born in San Francisco, but living out of state because of the current ban on ferrets. I would love to be able to bring my ferret family home, I'm hoping the Bill will make it through to law this time. Everyone has worked so hard to make this a reality. Yea Team!

I will never forget when I had to make the decision of moving to CA when my parents had grown so ill. It was a fast move, they needed us right away. I knew there was no way I was going to take the chance of moving any animal over the CA border. When they pass I will NEVER live in this state again, the stupidity, corruption, and many other negative things keep this state off my states where I would want to live.

I do not live in CA, but do own two ferrets and personally believe that current CA 'ferret legislation' is rediculous and unfounded. Responsible people who own ferrets or any other animal deemed 'dangerous' or risky, such as certain dog breeds, shouldn't have to give up their pets due to the uneducated and inexperienced fears of a select few.

I feel really sorry for you guys in the U.S. who cannot keep ferrets although I do understand the need for vigilance about not introducing alien species if they escape. We in the UK are lucky, doubly so that we don't have rabies (yet) so don't have that worry. Ferrets and ferreting are still a part of country life here although they are becoming fashionable pets as well. it still makes me laugh that they are considered 'exotic' as I have rarely met tougher, more down to earth little guys. It seems even stranger as in the US you seem to be able to keep all kinds of pets we would need licences for over here.

I don't live in California nor do we ever expect to. We have 4 ferrets and a house just isn't a home without these little furballs. The laws in CA were made by ignorant uneducated people who were probably bit by a fert when they were children. The governator even made a movie one time where he had a pet ferret. (Kindergarden Cop) All we can do is try to educate them and keep the e-mails going. Even I've sent e-mails even tho CA is not my state of residence.
