NW Chapter of National Black Chamber and SBA Sign Collaboration Agreement

SEATTLE The Seattle district office of the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the National Black Chamber of Commerce have agreed to join forces in an effort to promote black entrepreneurship and small business ownership in Washington State.

SBA Regional Administrator Conrad Lee will participate in the signing of a Strategic Alliance Memorandum during a ceremony Feb. 19 in Olympia. Seattle SBA District Director Bob Meredith and PNCNBCC President Dr. Charles A. Horne will sign the agreement on behalf of the two offices.

By building this collaborative environment the SBA and PNCNBCC will strive to reach more prospective clients in the black business community who want to start or expand small businesses, said Meredith. The agreement seeks to increase participation of black-owned businesses in the SBA's capital-access, procurement, technical assistance, women's business, and training programs.

Regional Administrator Lee said the agreement is in keeping with the SBAs mission of providing resources for all Americans wanting to start and grow small businesses. As an Asian American I understand that the growth of Washington States African-American small business community is important to the prosperity of the region, said Lee. I am glad that SBA is partnering with the Pacific NW Chapter of the National Black Chamber of Commerce to assist and develop innovative business models that will enable African-American business owners to succeed in owning a business and achieve economic prosperity.

Horne said the alliance is in step with the chambers mission, too. "The Pacific Northwest Chapter National Black Chamber of Commerce is dedicated and committed to the economic empowerment and enhancement of African American communities through the development and strengthening of African American business," he said. The combined efforts of our two organizations will enhance opportunities for African-American businessmen and women.
