My Dh is a Myers-Briggs type ISTJ. He fits the exact profile of a Tech worker. ISTJ is
Quote:
ISTJs are often called inspectors. They have a keen sense of right and wrong, especially in their area of interest and/or responsibility. They are noted for devotion to duty. Punctuality is a watchword of the ISTJ. The secretary, clerk, or business(wo)man by whom others set their clocks is likely to be an ISTJ.

As do other Introverted Thinkers, ISTJs often give the initial impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold. Effusive expression of emotional warmth is not something that ISTJs do without considerable energy loss.

ISTJs are most at home with "just the facts, Ma'am." They seem to perform at highest efficiency when employing a step-by-step approach. Once a new procedure has proven itself (i.e., has been shown "to work,") the ISTJ can be depended upon to carry it through, even at the expense of their own health.
Type Logic

In my interpretation as an ENFP ( search the TYpeLogic for your own type), an ISTJ is a stickler for details. An image in my mind is the pocket protecter AV kid from junior high. Sadly, DH is still that guy with a more Maxim look than Pocket protector.

His personality type is the one that most people would associate with Techie jobs...but then there is me. The ENFP, the social butterfly, the big picture and always out- of the box thinker. I'm a Geek girl just the same, but I do things a bit differently.

There are no piles organized neatly on my desk as I need freedom in every aspect of my work. I have no use for figures and data and prefer the human side of every issue and every issue has a human side.

I'm wondering if there is a personality type that is better suited for IT work or if they all add something great to a team. Of course, I believe the latter, but I had to throw it out there.

A BellaOnline Editor has just written a great article on Myers Briggs Types so stop by and read it and then take the exam for yourself. Jeanette Steven's Article: Myers Briggs Personality Types

I am not a tech worker. However, I took the Myers Briggs test some time back. It was so on target, it was frightening. It also showed that my profession (law/medicine) was on targe as well.

I am sort of a techie worker. I work in an office environment. I am an INFJ which is odd to work in an office environment although I am not completely introverted. I do approach people but I don't open up as quickly. I think this is a wonderful personality test IMO. My fiance' took it as well and this has helped us understand each other. Now when we get in a bickering he will say "YOu are such and INFJ" to make us laugh and stop bickering.

Interesting topic JLynn,

I use the MBTI with every nursing student who comes into the BSN program that I teach in, then give them and their teachers their type in an Excel spreadsheet so that the teaching can be customized to suit the general class types....I also use Howard Gardner's Multiple Intellgences taxonomy with them.

Personally, I am an INFP, which works perfectly with the freelance web design company I run, I find.

When I was on my last techie job and the workload ceased for a day, we were all dying of boredom. I was surfing the web and found a free Myers Briggs test site. How revealing and what fun when I passed the test address around the office. We were all exactly on target with the results. The boss was delighted, as she was big on team-building activities, and it meant that the down-time wasn't wasted time. It really did help bring us together, especially some of the quiet, techie types whose results started with "I."

Thanks for the replies! It is interesting to learn the dynamics of your work group with Myers Briggs. I am even more intrigued by the effects in my house. DH and I have taken several personality type tests and prove to be opposites in all of them, which is the most common for married couples. Guess it's true, opposites attract.
