Just wanted to share an updated pic of my newt habitat I made in a 5 gallon tank I picked up at the dump..great find !

The plants have grown nicely and the female betta I have in the water is doing well too.

Actually you can see a golden danio in there...lol...I put one in for now until I can give them their regular home back. I'm using the danio tank for an attempt at raising blue ram fry. You can see the two newts in the moss.

Beautiful set-up! You do nice work with these tanks, EMG! It makes me want to get a larger tank and try something like this...

I agree, you have a really nice set up Emg. I was looking at newts and adfs the last time we were at the petstore *sigh*. Maybe when we find some space to put a tank. What are they like personality-wise? Friendly at all?

I guess now we can call you a "newt-case" as well.<VBG> They aren't going to have a fish snack? Good luck with them; they're adorable. Actually, that's something that my son might like. He begs for some kind of reptile, but I daren't since the Jack Russell is fast and predatory. She loves to watch the corys racing around the bottom of our aquarium. As if... Funny. She only cares about catfish.

LOL...HEy...Newt-case is good...maybe I will change that..lol...

Newts are very interesting and I have found, easy to keep. A tank like mine with newts on the platform and ADFs in the water would be cool..I did have my ADFs in there but took them out when one grabbed the bettas tail and went for one of those Nantucket Sleigh Rides...lol...it was pretty funny, but I don't think my little girl betta appreciated it much..

My newts will come over to the side of the tank when they see me looking in at them..hoping for a handout. I only feed them every other day..some freeze dried blood worms and live black worms. They don't generally move around the tank much though..mostly hang out underneath the big plant in the corner. They actually like to climb up in the plant and sleep on the leaves. They are very cute ! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
