Hello all;

My name is Darren, my wife is Rita and we have two children. I have never asked for charity from anyone in my life so i have absolutely no idea where to start. Ive tried the search engines however all of them seem to be taking things instead of putting a place for people requesting help Maybe somone here can direct me to the right place.

My wife Rita 34 years old had a car accident last year which left her paralized. Her back was broken and shattered and has metal rods on either side to keep it in tact. She cannot move anything from her upper waiste down. I am disabled and we have two children. We are extremely poor. I spent 9 years in the u.s army, but now am disabled.

Our home which is small is extremely old and has very small doors which is not suitable for a wheelchair to pass thru any of the doors except the front. My wife is growing larger, from not being able to move much and our vehicle is on its last leg. I dont believe it will last another month. So I am really in need of a wheelchair accessable van, one which will be much easier to move her around so she can make her doctors appointments which are a long distance from where we live. In addition we need a home which a wheel chair can fit through the doors so i can bathe her in a tub or shower and she can have mobility and will be able to do some.. things for herself. Having her "helping" in her mind would greatly help her overall in my opinion.

Again, i have no idea where to start to look for help on the internet your site is the only place i actually seen a forum and the others didnt appear to have a request for help area at all.

If any of you can help me in anyway to find a place to ask for help, or can help in anyway please contact me at [email]darrenwheeler24@hotmail.com
Sincerely,

Darren Wheeler

I would call Oprah Winfrey. I think she has a program for donated cars to low income people. I know that there are organizations out there. You would also want to look up any Christopher Reeve foundations. It's going to take a lot of calling and looking on-line. Ask her doctor or talk to someone at the VA Clinic. Call churches in your area. Tell everyone and anyone your story. I wish you luck!

There's another place called NetWish.org and here's the info from their site:

NetWish.org is not a traditional non-profit organization!

NetWish is the brain child of successful businessman who has set aside a moderate amount of money per Month to help those less fortunate.

The donor wishes to remain absolutely anonymous and receives no tax deduction for the donations - This is real charity.

NetWish removes the red tape of traditional non-profit organizations and uses the power of the Internet to provide direct and immediate assistance to families and individuals who desperately require a modest helping hand.

Our specific focus is how the aid will benefit children, older adults and other vulnerable members of our community.

Request for wishes are reviewed and applicants who have a request accepted may be contacted directly.

Again, the donor wishes to remain anonymous and all applicant information and requests will remain strictly private. Remember, the more specific the request the better chance of a helping hand.

We rely on the honesty of the applicants and fraudulent applications will take help away from people who honestly need it.

It looks as though they make gifts of up to $500 towards your "wish." You might also try some of the local fraternal organizations like the Eagles and the Elks.

Best wishes,
~Lisa
