What charities do you like to donate money to?

I like wildlife charities, to save tigers and ospreys and such. I also love the charities that "help people help themselves" - like the one that gives chickens and llamas to villagers. I hope someday to save enough money to be able to do the "ark" option!

Yes, Hiefer.org. My favorite animal in the world is a goat. Since I've found that site I've been asking for goats for Christmas (to be given to those in need, of course).

I like the animal charities too. I give to the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Conservation Center. They are really cool because they don't treat their animals as a zoo. You can only visit a few days a year. The rest of the time, only trained volunteers are allowed. This lets the animals enjoy an existance closer to their actual natural habitat. I have visited there though, and it's beautiful how much room they have.

They are also one of the few wildlife sanctuaries that are accredited. There are only about 70 accredited places in the US, and only 17 of those accept large felines (tigers, lions, cougars, etc.) and bears. That's an insanely small number, and really illustrates that there are a lot of groups out there doing goodness knows what in the name on wildlife sanctuary. Hmm, I should probably write an article on this.

I also do a lot of work with breast cancer foundations (for selfish, selfish reasons! ).

It's so hard just to pick a few to support, but I've found that's the only way I really stick with it.

I love nimals as well; however, a charity I supported in college is one i still donate to to day. I donate my time as much as I can to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Society and I run the Race for the Cure each year. It is a great cause!

I like to give to local causes so my charitable giving goes to the local ASPCA shelter and the local food bank.

Do you ever use GoodSearch which donates to your favorite charity every time you do an internet search? The Rocky Mt Wildlife Conservation Center is one of the choices. There is a GoodShop part of the site too which donates every time you shop on the net if you go through the site.

I've been designating one of the county animal shelters to get my search and shopping donations. They were on the verge of having to euthanize all the animals before people stepped up to help.

I have probably given over $20,000 worth of stuff to Goodwill over the decades.

I donated my Ford Escort to the Seattle Humane Society when I lived up there. That made me happy.

I prefer animal charities myself.

I also have a wish posted on Wish Upon a hero, my user name is food historian.
The best thing anyone can do to help those in need ( and bring overall healthcare costs down) is to tell your congressman that low glycemic index foods and low sodium/lowfat cheeses should be added to Government commodities for food pantries. Most of the food donated is skyhigh in carbs, sugar and salt- a deadly combination for low income seniors trying to suppliment their SNAP food credit.

I noticed that - that high carb, high processed food is cheap, but produce and other healthy things are less so. And that food pantries are good at handing out less-than-superb healthy food options. frown

I called my local Richmond KY Foodbanks, charities- their first priority is for families with kids- I was hoping my husband and myself wuld get a Turkey dinner ( He's on SSI and our SNAP Food credit is $101) Dinner will cost at least $30, because John is diabetic. Not sure if I can manage this time.
