My name is Vannie and I am the host of Hot and Spicy at BellaOnline. I'm hopeful that we can get a few folks here to talk about their fav. hot and spicy foods whether it's BBQ with its "wow" that's hot flavorful taste or Thai food with its subtle hot spiciness that catches up with your tongue later.

Welcome to Hot and Spicy Forum.

Hi my name is Mike....longtime lover of the heat, looking forward to sharing some thoughts and ideas with some like minded folks here! I grow a small amount of chiles at home here in Wisconsin with pretty good success...this year I grew Carribbean Red Habeneros, Serranos, Jalapenos and Chiletepins....I made up a few big batches of hot sauce for family and friends, jarred a bunch and of course ate as many as possible fresh off the vine in salsa....As autumn is now upon us the time is here for full on indulgence in all things firey and spicy to warm us up on those chilly nights! Anyways, hello to anyone here, hope to hear from you....Mike

Hello Mike,

Welcome. You are our first member. It is duly noted <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> It sounds as if you had an awesome summer with peppers. Your family and friends are so lucky to have you around.

Did you pepper any vinegar with any of the peppers? It's grand on any kind of cooked green leafy vegetable, especially collards, kale and cabbage. You know, I love Carribbean Reds. I stopped a supermarket near my office one day last week and was enraptured with the pepper section. There are so many available now. Fresh off the vine must be pure heaven.

"As autumn is now upon us the time is here for full on indulgence in all things firey and spicy to warm us up on those chilly nights!"

(smiling) Brilliantly said!

Hello to Everyone in BellaOnline,

Wow, this is a wonderful site....very easy to navigate and looks like loads of fun and great topics.

My name is Kathy Ellen and I'm from Noo Joisey. I live close to the beach and love to read, walk along the boardwalk, ride my bike, cook hot and spicy foods and travel.

Hope I get to know the locals soon.

Hi Kathy and welcome - yes it is a great friendly site!

So you like to read? It just so happens I am Short Stories editor so I get to write lots about reading.

I'd like an excuse to talk about tasty spicy foods too!

Has anyone got any ideas on how to create dishes which preserve all the spiciness without being too hot for kids?

Hello Bella,
Thank you so much for your lovely post. I'm so delighted to have found this site. I was looking for recipes for "Hot and Spicy" foods and up popped "BellaOnline." Just read your profile and love that you love Ireland. My family comes from Donegal. I also love to read books, especially when I'm at the beach cool

Hope to get to know everyone soon.

Kathy

Ireland? Donegal? No - really?? - Small world!

I'm guessing you might like Irish authors then? - as I do!

Don't want to wander too far off-topic, but would love to hear about your favourites. Anne Enright crops up frequently in my articles I can tell you!

Don't forget Tony King's Irish Culture site too!

Hi - recipe wanted!

Chilli con Carne recipe which can have some spices/seasoning added at the end so that I can take portions out during cooking for kids who can't take their chilli too hot? Is paprika better than chilli for example?

Paprika is milder than Chilli powder, cayenne pepper is HOT, Paprike is mild, in my experiance.
I think Paprika is made from peppers reather than chillies and thats why.

Now that's something I didn't know! Thanks. I will try chilli con carne with paprika and report back here!

Is paprika the one used in Hungarian Goulash?
