DRUNK BLACK BEAR CAUGHT TASTING HAIR OF DOG

The Associated Press--Printed in the Anchorage Daily News August 20, 2004

Baker Lake, Wash

Whan state Fish and Wildlife agents recently found a black bear passed out on the lawn of a Baker Lake Resort, there were some clues scattered nearby---dozens of empty cans of Rainier Beer. The bear appparently got into campers' coolers and used his claws and teeth to puncture the cans. And not just any cans.

"He drank the Rainier and wouldn't drink the Busch beer," said Lisa Broxson, bookkeeper at the campground and cabins resort east of Mount Baker.

Fish and wildlife enforcement Sgt. Bill Heinck said the bear did try one can of Busch but ignored the rest. The beast then consumed about 36 cans of Rainier.

A wildlife agent tried to chase the bear from the campground, but the animal just climbed a tree to sleep it off for another four hours. When the bear returned the next morning, agents used a large, humane trap to capture it for relocation, baiting the trap with the usual: doughnuts, honey and, in this case, two open cans of Rainier.

"This is a new one on me," Heinck said. "I've known them to get into cans, but nothing like this. And it definitely had a preference."

LOL, you beat me to it, Rose!

Hopefully there are no beer guzzling people where they relocated him! I don't know if his liver would take a daily diet of beer, hee hee. It would be a funny public service ad, showing him passed out and surrounded by the cans and the slogan, "remember...drink responsibly."

Can't blame the guy for not liking Busch beer. Hopefully he didn't wake up with too much of a hangover. That's what I call a party animal. Sorry for the really bad pun.

It is intersting how some people react to this story. A few other people that I told this story to thought it was so "unatural" for an animal to want to drink beer and become intoxicated. But, I know that many animals go out of their way to get "femented" fruits just so they CAN get intoxicated. Anyway, I too hope the bruin didn't have too great of a hangover.
